its so so so hard

because queer people (in general that I personally see, this may not be the case) are not usually religious. a lot of them actively do not like religion at all. and no one really likes mormons, heck we have a whole musical mocking our beliefs and religions. its won awards. (im so upset about that i cant even, like any other religion even catholicism everyone would riot) but overall, religion and the lgbtq+ community don’t really overlap that much, especially in media.

which is hard, because im in a church where the gospel doesn’t say gay people go to hell, but the culture is definitely that. where people with colored hair or guys with long hair are side eyed. where some women get pulled aside for wearing a pantsuit. 

the gospel is good. that doesn’t mean the gospel isn’t hard. it’s hard, it’s a struggle, it’s downright impossible for some people, and they’re not even queer!

 queerstake on tumblr is the only place where ive been able to find queer resources, and it’s mainly just talking about homophobia and problematic teachings, with a little bit of inspiration.

Alright Queerstake lets start this year off right!!! We have built a little community to fight against whatever ills the world will throw at us and we can withstand anything!! Don’t forget to show love to these wonderful humans this month in particular as we celebrate the days they came into the world!!

1) despite the ways its institution has hurt me, the gospel and doctrines of this religion have continually brought me comfort and peace. ive had so many experiences tied to this church that have brought me hope and helped me know i'm not alone. i truly and wholeheartedly believe this is the religion and faith that i am meant to build my spirituality around.

and i suspect church membership counsels might actually be counsels of love and encouragement this time around? where are you at? where do you want to go that you feel is right? how can we love and support you in your journey?

I don’t know what for yet, I just want attention.

Alright I finally got approved to start the field work on my thesis which means I need people!

I’m doing my thesis on Feminism within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and in order to study that I’m doing individual interviews with members. The interviews will all be done over Zoom or Google and should last about an hour. They’ll be fairly relaxed in which I’ll ask some questions about how you feel on the topics of women and feminism within the Church. It’ll all be completely anonymous and the only people who will have any sort of access to the raw data are me and my thesis advisor at the university. 

If you’re interested you HAVE to be 18 or older, active or involved in the Church, and living in America. I plan to contrast the data I get from people on here with people in my YSA ward so people 18-30 is preferable.

I am demonstrably sad, and lonely, and full of fear. But there are other people who will hold my hand, who will point out the hawk overhead, who will give you That Look in a public place. The other day at a coffee shop a child said "look! It's snowing!" so all of us strangers went to go look out the windows. It wasn't the first snow and it won't be the last but wasn't it lovely, like that?

How wonderful to live in a world where birds and frogs both say beep! How wonderful to have an ocean of beautiful sharks with their dinosaur teeth! How wonderful the moon and her changing face, how wonderful the bees and their dancing to communicate, how wonderful shrimp and their forbidden layers of vision! How wonderful, you, and what you will give the world! The way we love things enough to spend entire blogs devoted to them? How people will let me explain my Pokemon team to them? How we will both jump at the scare in the movie, how we laugh so loudly, how it feels to give someone your baking? How wonderful to be alive. I am sorry for forgetting.
