just remembered lilly had the rockette part in jive bunny! oh my heart😭
Queen
Conventions to consider attending rather than danceone:
DANCEMAKERS
Age categories: 3-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14, 15+
Sample prices: 175 per solo, 65 per dancer per group
Notable faculty: Robert Roland (sytycd), Kathryn McCormick (sytycd, step up)
pros: age appropriate rule, all judge’s feedback is virtual to reduce environmental footprint, scholarships for pace university intensives & independent lake camp
Cons: Convention age groups are different from comp age groups, dancers are made to wear “cover ups” over their dancewear between classes which can be seen as an enforcement of toxic modesty/purity culture.
STREETZ
Age categories: 5-7, 8-10, 11-12, 13-15, 16+
Sample prices: 175 solo, 65 per dancer per group
Notable faculty: Ezra Sosa (drag race, dwts), Alexa Moffet (dance moms, Kelli Wilkins arch nemesis), Kelly Sweeney (tik tok)
Pros: loyalty rewards program for studios who bring 30+ routines or have attended for 3+ consecutive years, complimentary hotel room for studios bringing 60+ students, special awards and invites to recompete in closing show, best of studio and best of city awards, family friendly rule, extra judge who provides feedback specifically for the choreographer/teachers, “dancer of the year” competition at nationals which includes a solo, audition, convention performance, and interview, streetz company auditions (touring and performance opportunities) separate from national title, live improv competition at nationals AND regionals, “next step” audition at nationals for dancers 15+ for the opportunity to win scholarships from various universities and talent agencies.
Cons: parents are not permitted to observe convention and only 2 teachers can observe per studio after paying an observation fee, only 30% of each score is based on technique
NYCDA:
Age categories: 7-10, 11-12, 13-15, 16-18, 19+
Sample prices: 195 per solo, 75 per dancer per group
Notable faculty: Joe Lanteri (nycda director), Ali Diets (Jacob’s Pillow alumni)
Pros: age appropriate rule, tons of scholarships with various colleges and intensives, special scholarship auditions for graduating dancers at nationals with a focus on college and career-starting scholarships (348 dancers auditioned last season and 181 of them received college offers totaling 25,242,00 in scholarships!!), special awards including sportsmanship and class act, studio awards.
Cons: extremely convoluted rules for national title competition, accusations of favouritism, national title competition has no live audition/improv component, awards are sheets of paper.
VELOCITY
Age categories: 5-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-15, 18-18, 19+
Sample prices: 195 per solo, 75 per dancer per group
Notable faculty: Ashley Gonzales (wod), Brian Nicholson (Ariana Grande)
Pros: convention discounts based on number of students, choreography awards, financial assistance program, opportunity to perform with musical artist at nationals (previous artists include Tove Lo and Madison Beer)
Cons: scholarship finalists performing in closing shows are made to learn the choreography on their own time via video, no live improv or interview component to national title competition
INTRIGUE
Age categories: 6-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-21
Sample prices: 165 per solo, 68 per dancer per group
Notable faculty: Kevin Aubin (miami city ballet, SAB), Sophia Lucia (world record holder)
Pros: free audience admission, special awards for studios competing in multiple genres, discounts for convention based on number of students, improv competitions at regionals, student choreo competition, convention and dancewear scholarships,
Cons: allows dancers up to 22 (if 21 on jan 1st) to compete against teenagers, unclear national title rules

Hi my name is Saskia and I'm @kokomo.reimagine.welcomehome on insta. I've been a comp dance fan since 2020 but was a ocpaa fan before that. I'm new to tumblr and thought I'd make a blog.
Here are some lists I made for fun-
My All Time Fav Solos
P21 Dancers Through The Years
Nationals List
Dancers who have made the dance off at The Dance Awards
Club Dance Studio Company Dancers
Dancers who are now choreographers
Larkin Company Dancers
Most Iconic Dancers
Dances who quit comp dance before graduating
Iconic Dance Sisters
Dancewear Ambassadors List
Dancers who are still at the same studio as in 2020
Dancers who are signed with talent agencies
I'm still working on more, let me know if there's anyone else to add to any of the lists :)

OH LILLY DID THATTT! she’s such a musical theatre girl like she does the damn thing every time, so many moments in that solo where my jaw dropped!!!
That girl is born to be on Broadway
The difference between Club 5 and 5 Force is that the owners of 5 know who you are if your Club 5. They have no clue who you are if you’re 5 Force.
I literally watched the designer at 5 ask some mom about a girl he saw at a convention and he said, “she’s really good. We’d love to have her.” Little did he know, she was already a 5 Force member.
IMO, Five made a brilliant marketing move by adding all of those 5 Force ambassadors late last year. It seems like they added more than 100 of them. The talent level of many of them was questionable! But maybe that was intentional because it gave all dancers who wanted to rep a dance wear brand hope. They felt like all they needed to do was take pictures wearing Five and they would have a chance of being on 5 Force. So everyone started going out and buying Five. BRILLIANT! But as far as what it means to be on 5 Force…not much! There isn’t anything special about it since anyone can be a part of it.
Thank you for the explanation!
It’s honestly so weird that these brands have these “levels”, but I gotta admit, like you said, it’s a smart marketing move.
