where was that stand against hate when it comes to Lando, the streams of hate and vitriol and often times actual threats and wishes for harm against him

where was that when Bert got harassed badly enough over a comment he didn't even make that he had to private his ig

where was that when people were commenting nastiness under the post of that little boy Milo in Mexico, who cried because he met Lando and was so overwhelmed they'd picked him out the crowd from his sign

where was that when both f1 and mclaren's comments were flooded with homophobia aimed at a child who was there as some sort of make a wish and was just excited to meet Lando

where was that when Alayah, the little girl who makes and sells bracelets and loves Lando so much and just wanted a hug from him when she met him at the MTC, and her family were being sent nastiness about her and to her parents

and yet NEVER have they publicly called out the utter vitriol and hatred aimed at Lando over the last 2 years

they've removed comments even mildly criticising their other driver, we know people have been blocked by Zak on twitter for very mild comments but literal death threats and wishes of harm to Lando (things like Jeddah quali and Zandvoort DNF) have been left there in ig comments and also twitter

the caption tells you everything, it's performative

but even more than that, during the Daniel era, some "fans" (and I use that term loosely) went as far as to harass members of Mind, the mental health charity McLaren were partnered with at the time, and McLaren said not a word about it

they didn't stick up for mechanics and other crew before now, when we KNOW they've had to go private on IG because of harassment which I made a post on at the time (e.g. Bert, getting harassed for a comment he didn't even fucking make)

we've seen honestly all through Lando's career, but ramped up with the staniels (derogatory) and then even more so with his current teammate's fanbase* and other drivers' fanbases* to f1 fans as a whole to the media over the last 2 years in particular

they've never said anything in defence of Lando's mentality when he's been repeatedly psychoanalysed, when he's gotten undue criticism for doing something and then the same criticism when he didn't do the thing, the team management itself has made comments like "glad Lando's brakes failed so he couldn't race Oscar" or been thrown under the bus by them only to then admit team fault in lesser known media outlets so people still run with blaming Lando

it really is just a farce and they're not fooling anyone with eyes and ears and some brain cells to rub together

as if you needed anymore reason to love this guy <3
