Stray Kids were doing a doctor themed fansign and a fan had conversation with Chan that went like this:

Fan: My head hurts now that Stray Kids have stopped promoting

Chan:Oh so you have depression? Then I'm gonna prescribe you meds to take for 0325 days. Make sure to take them. Ah what am I doing? I don't know😅

And now people are accusing him of "making fun of and being insensitive about depression"

So let's just get the facts out there

1) This is fan translated. There is no actual audio meaning that there could be some mistranslations

2)Based on the context they are most likely talking about Post Concert Depression which is not an actual medical condition but one in which you just feel sad because the fun is over. It's even more evident given the fact he prescribed then meds for 0325 days aka their debut date and then awkwardly laughing it off meaning he was just joking around about a non serious issue(which the original translator has just confirmed it was about Post Concert Depression NOT actual depression so Antis Imma need you to hop off and apologize)

If you actually knew Stray Kids you would know they talk about mental health in almost all of their songs. You would know that all of them have been through a depressive state at some point because they are so open about it. You would know that Chan speaks so openly about it through his music because he's been through it. He's said before how awful he felt when his friends were debuting and he was still left behind, how he literally would not be here if it weren't for Stray Kids, how he loves Stay enough to have vlives every weekend so that they don't feel alone like he did. He constantly expresses this through his music by showing it's ok to have these thoughts because he's had them too but to overcome them and not to let them bring you down. So knowing all this do you really think he's gonna joke about actual depression so lightly?

Again I cannot tell you how to feel but I have yet to see one person who actually suffers from depression be offended by this. (And if you are im truly sorry, but please at least look at the context before making a decision.) It has been mostly Antis and clout chasers who could care less about actual issues and more about bringing down a successful rookie group who actually talks about real issues.

Look, we have just got to stop jumping to conclusions and start researching. We have got to start finding all the facts before putting something out there. And we have got to start understanding and respecting not only each other but our idols as well

How do you guys feel about this?

People who suffer from depression. I get it.

I love Channie. And I know he was just...making a joke. I know people get offended by these things and the people who suffer from depression can eother get really offended and go off. Or people who do, will jusy play it cool

But I'm pretty sure there's some drama about this already, but I just want to say, you guys can do whatever you want. I'm just going to say, not to attack Chan on this thing. I already saw a lot of people writing hate comments about him. And it hurts me to see that.

For example:

"He's a clown. Someone just kick him out"

"Nowadays it's hard being a stay because of Chan. Bang chan stop being such a clown."

"Chan is the reason why I don't stan stray kids"

It makes me feel hurt to see these types of comments. That are coming from different fandoms and from Stay.

Even though Chan was making a joke, it still hurt other people. Some people were saying that maybe it was a mistranslation. But it is not fully confirmed yet.

I'm really hurt by all these comments. Chan just went through the braid and racism stuff and now some more shit is going to be thrown at him.

I'm not choosing sides because I know some people who suffer from depression. But at the same time, it was a joke. It's not like Chan meant what he said.

i’m watching chan’s live currently with jeongin as his special guest, they’re having the times of their lives, and everyone in the comments are just being fucking stupid and they keep commenting “chan apologize” or “chan you messed up” or “chan you need to learn about cultural appropriation.” i understand that he made a mistake but when he said that was he going to apologize, i don’t think everyone should have kept pressuring him.

yes, there is a mistake. we don’t know who made the mistake, i don’t know what happened and i don’t want to assume anything. however, he said he’ll apologize so just watch the live and be happy that he’s still doing it. chan doesn’t have to do these lives for you if he doesn’t have to, but he wants to do them. so just be happy, and he’ll address the issue when he thinks it’s the right time.

at the current moment, he’s enjoying himself and taking time out to play music and talk to stays, and not ever kpop fan has this same privilege—wait till you hear the whole story, but at the moment don’t make demands and ruin it for them or other stays. i’m sure chan doesn’t want to constantly see “chan address the issue” in the comments while looking for song recommendations or loving comments from stays. 

he’ll take care of the issue at some point. that’s what i believe, and i trust chan will do the right thing.

NOW, if he doesn’t address the issue, that’s a different story. we’ll see by the end of this live.

UPDATE: he mentioned that he appreciates different cultures, and that he feels honored whenever he uses these different kinds of music and cultures. he hasn’t apologized for the “cultural appropriation” bs that everyone keeps spewing (excuse me for this, but i don’t see why it’s such a big deal, but i respect people so opinions are opinions) but it is clear that he has a high appreciation for other cultures and views. he didn’t go about the topic at all, which is a little disappointing, but let’s see what happens.

UPDATE 2: thank you for those in the comments who explained to me why this is an issue (@sobabo). i may have seemed like an ignorant dumbass, which was totally not my intention so i’m glad for the explanation. the only reason i made this post was to show that stays were being disrespectful by demanding an apology when he promised that he was going to say something about it when they could have been enjoying the live.
