Not So Deer by Richard Lay
i love you like all-fire
GAH THEY'RE ADORABLE
the achilles scene in the odyssey is haunting tbh. the whole iliad being about men dying to have honor and glory to be remembered after death and achilles is just, just getting to the point where he believes maybe thereâs more to life than dying and maybe he doesnât want to lose his life in this pointless war and then him getting pulled into it anyway, dying the homeric hero he never wanted to be, then meeting odysseus in the underworld and telling him a slaveâs lot would be better than his own because at least he would be alive
the odyssey as a direct refute to the entire iliad is insane. achilles ultimately choosing the short life with glory over the long one without. achilles choosing, painfully, to never go home. and itâs a mistake
odysseus is literally surrounded by the souls of heroes who died before him in glory and achilles looks at him and steps out of the iliad and into the odyssey and says itâs not worth it. itâs not worth it to not to go home.

if youâre in the EPIC community youâve seen this already but Iâm arranging WYFILWMA by ear (just for fun and bc Jorge is a genius) and hereâs my arrangement of Odysseusâs part lmao
if you want to play my arrangement, go ahead! If you end up posting it or something, just drop my user or a link to my post, but honestly I couldnât care less who plays my arrangement - Iâm doing this for fun! All rights go to Jorge Rivera-Herrans, and I have no clue if my arrangement is actually right but who am I to stop yall from trying đ
next step for me is to arrange Penelopeâs part (Iâm going to play it on violin but the notes will literally work for any instrument that has the range) and then after that I have to actually learn how to play it without messing up đ
other notes: yes, I can read regular music, itâs just easier for me to read and write the letter notes; on a similar note, thatâs why itâs highlighted (sorry if itâs harder for you guys but itâs better for me đ)
(Final product/performance will be on my music blog @medoingrandommusicstuff)
A Nico Di Angelo October piece that I made for the @pjoplanner!
Tis over! The first of the bunch gotta be my favourite

I cannot emphasize enough how much you need to read thoroughly through the terms of any publication before you send your writing to them. It is mandatory that you know and understand what rights youâre giving away when youâre trying to get published.
Just the other day I was emailed by a relatively new indie journal looking for writers. They made it very clear that they did not pay writers for their work, so I figured Iâd probably be passing, but I took a look at their Copyright policy out of curiosity and it was a nightmare. They wanted ânon-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license and right to use, display, reproduce, distribute, and publish the Work on the internet and on or in any mediumâ (thatâs copy and pasted btw) and that was the first of 10 sections on their Copyright agreement page. Yikes. Thatâs exactly the type of publishing nightmare you donât want to be trapped in.Â
Most journals will ask for âFirst North American Rightsâ or a variation on âFirst Rightsâ which operate under the assumption that all right revert back to you and they only have the right to be the first publishers of the work. That is what you need to be looking for because you do want to retain all the rights to your work.Â
You want all rights to revert back to you upon publication in case you, say, want to publish it again in the future or use it for a bookmark or post it on your blog, or anything else you might want to do with the writing you worked hard on. Any time a publisher wants more than that, be very suspicious. Anyone who wants to own your work forever and be able to do whatever they want with it without your permission is not to be trusted. Anyone who wants all that and wants you to sign away your right to ever be paid for your work is running a scam.
Protect your writing. Itâs not just your intellectual property, itâs also your baby. You worked hard on it. You need to do the extra research to protect yourself so that a scammer (or even a well meaning start up) doesnât steal you work right from under you nose and make money off of it.
Exclusive publishing rights have to have a set time frame! Do not agree to anything that doesnât clearly state âup to five years from signatureâ or something like that.Â
What if the publisher goes defunct? What if they get bought by another publisher who doesnât care to promote or publish your work? You still canât to anything with it, you donât own it anymore!
For a thorough overview of what you should be aware of regarding your intellectual property and publishing rights, please read through this collection of post [https://kriswrites.com/business-musings/contracts-and-dealbreakers/] by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.Â
Protect your IP. Do not give away your stories.
Every writer needs to read this before signing that contract:
Writer Beware!
Pssst if you want really funky drawing references, especially intimate ones, statues and sculptures are really good for those
