The thing that makes me insane about Lancelot is that he’s the knight who has most internalized those romantic notions of knighthood and chivalry. And, like, sometimes it leads him to make Bad Decisions (specifically: ditching Gwen because he realized Arthur liked her and assumed that Arthur could offer her more than him, instead of- you know- asking how she felt about that). But part of this code of conduct he’s so devoted to, one of the first things we learn about him, is that he hates lying. “No more falsehoods; no more deceit” - he would rather walk away from his chance at knighthood than gain it through deception, even knowing he deserved the title as much as anyone. And that fact makes it so much more significant that he never for a moment judged or resented Merlin for concealing his magic, nor did he seem to feel any compunction about keeping the secret himself to protect his friend. He sees Merlin, sees his goodness, and determines that that is the higher value even above his prized honesty. And that’s love babey <3
