A queen and their knight

The first panel shows a pregnant Jolene foraging in the forest, a hand resting on her belly. She calls over her shoulder, “Maw Maw! Where are ‘ya? Let’s hurry on back before this baby decides she wants to pop out in'na dang goodberry bush!” Below, fainter text reads, “Wouldn’t be the first time.” Maw Maw, not in the panel, responds, “Mother! Look!”

The second panel shows an infant Hardwon in a basket, happily peering up at Maw Maw who is leaning over him, looking worried. Jolene’s dialogue bubble reads, “Oh, Melora…”

The third panel shows Jolene holding baby Hardwon as she asks him, “Now what in the 9 hells you doin’ on yer lonesome, youngin?” Hardwon verbalizes a “Muh!” sound as he reaches toward Maw Maw who has a paper note in her mouth. Maw Maw says of the note, “This was in the basket, Mother.”

The fourth panel shows Jolene’s hand holding the handwritten note which reads, “Dear Crick Mee Maw, sorry to dump the little guy off with ya but we heard you folk are mighty hospitable. I’d take him myself but I’m a rat man & my life sux. Plz take care of little-” The note is cut off by some wear and tear on the paper. Jolene’s dialogue bubble reads, “Well, shee-it.”

The final panel shows Jolene and Maw Maw walking side by side. Jolene once again has her hand on her belly, and Hardwon is giggling as he rides on Maw Maw’s back, Maw Maw looking affectionately at him. Jolene says aloud, “Well, Moonshine, looks like you ain’t gonna be the only new addition ‘round these parts.”
