civilian au where Ghost is a drummer who regularly plays with his band at a small club; itās dark and small and loud and he loves it. Being on drums lets him stay out of the spotlight while still working as a team, acting as the beating heart of the band. He occasionally has solos, but heās perfectly happy as the underlying pulse. He keeps his signature mask on during performances, adding to his mystery and, unbeknownst to him, his allure.
Johnny works as a bartender and drink runner at the bar at the back of the club, affording him a perfect view of the stage and, coincidentally, the hot drummer that plays every other weekend. He stays too busy to really gawk, but he spares every glance he can, often catching the drummerās eye as he weaves through the room with a drink tray held high or a shaker in his hands. His fellow bartender, Gaz, makes fun of him ceaselessly, but he couldnāt care less.
The club has a lot of regulars, to the point where Johnny knows a lot of orders by heart, knows what āthe regularā means to a lot of patrons, which is how he instantly clocks the newcomer. Heās tall and broad and blond, with a deeply scarred face and dark brown eyes that are almost hard to see in the dark room. Johnnyās favorite band isnāt playing that night, so he has some attention to spare for the stranger, who seems to zero in on him immediately. Normally, itād be creepy, but heās respectful and polite and incredibly attractive, so Johnny plays into it, throwing out a flirty wink with every drink order.
And so it goes; Johnny eyes Ghost from afar and flirts with the strangerāSimon, he learnsāwhenever he drops by. He never notices the pattern, that Simon never attends the shows that Ghost plays, and a part of him feels guilty for his split attractions, but he never sees either of them ever actually going anywhere, so thereās no harm, right?
And then he watches Ghost step off the stage at the end of one of his performances and make a bee-line for the bar, evidently parched after spending several hours under the hot lights. Itās something heās never done before; normally, the lead singer or bassist orders drinks for the whole band after their sets. He watches in anticipation as Ghost approaches, only for his jaw to drop and eyes to widen as Ghost pulls off his mask to revealā¦ Simon. Itās his worlds colliding and he feels like heās seeing double, but his internal panic lasts only a second before Simon is laughing, obviously deeply enjoying Johnnyās floundering, and then Johnny starts laughing too, because what else can he do?
A lot, as it turns out, because he asks Simon out that night, and they spend the rest of the weekend wandering the city and wrapped in each otherās beds. After that, Ghostās shows are still Johnnyās favorite, but for a completely different reason. Simon still comes to watch whenever Johnnyās working and heās not playing, and Johnnyās boss, Price, can never really get too mad when Johnny pays for attention to Simon than the rest of their patrons, especially when Ghost proposes on stage after one of his performances a year later
