“Don’t let your kids watch past season 4 [of miraculous ladybug]” is something i saw like half a tiktok comments section saying like last week.
“Its too dark and they wouldnt get it!!!” No its not. Yes lila is manipulative as fuck in a way that us as teens/adults can understand but its not like its out of a kids grasp with the way they present and talk about it.
“Its rated 18+ in some places!!!” Yeah because some countries are homophobic and theyre not shy with the queer representation. Because they talk about violence and death and divorce and adult topics in a kid friendly way and some places dont like that.
“Theres too many adult topics like death and divorce!!” Yeah, but kids need exposure to these things sometimes, its not like theyre immune to it. Kids need role models and to see these characters go through similar things. A kid thats lost a grandparent can find comfort in seeing Marinette lose her grandad not long after meeting him. A kid with parents that fight all the time can see themselves in Nino and his brother in one of the newer episodes. Etc.
Let your kids watch it. Sure maybe the writers may be writing in some things for the older fans, but its at its core a kids show. Everything in there is suitable for kids to see, its just not what you expect in modern kids shows.
“They wont get it!” Give them a chance. You’re underestimating children, and even if you’re right, they wont care. They might not even notice. Hell, kids shows have aways been putting stuff in for the adults, even if just for the parents sat with their kids.
