My new dentist is an old man. I immediately worried he wouldnt understand that sometimes I got depressive episodes and then dont do everything i should. I was relieved like a brickhouse falling off my shoulders when he replied "Yeah understandable." and then applauded me for seeking therapy and telling me I did a great job with my teeth "despite everything". I have been keeping my teeth in much better shape since. Not through shame, but cause I know if I do slip up again once in a while, I will NOT be shamed. Because its okay!
