S2E8 reactions incoming. Can't believe I'm only gonna do this one more time for who knows how long until we get season 3. It's been fun, buds. I'm ready to book it back to full-time rp land though.
It seems like they forgot to add the âskip recapâ button feature on this episode. Or maybe it was completely intentional and they went âNo. You fuckers have shit media comprehension. You are going to watch the season 2 recap all the way through and you are going to like it.â (This is a joke. I am joking. I know I could just fast-forward past this stuff if I really wanted to. I simply donât want to.)
I canât tell you exactly how little I care about Caesarâs Legion like at all. Ever, but.
Yes, I know they play a vital role as a main faction in New Vegas. No, this does not change my low opinion of them.
I sided with the other fans who guessed correctly that Caesarâs note essentially said âI Am The Legion.â I donât think that guy would ever actually Name a successor.
And yes, I KNOW that Legate Lanius was his successor in the game.
âŠOkay fine. Worth it just for the Caesarâs Palace joke.
âI have been poisoned, shot, bludgeoned with a crowbarâŠâ IDK if anyone ever actually watched Archer on FX back in the day but there was always like. This promo where Archer makes a point of describing that ever since he got his job âIâve been shot, stabbed, set on fire, poisoned, shot, sexually assaulted, partially chewed, shot, and declared legally dead - twice on the same day!â or something like that. Anyways. Thatâs what House listing off the attempts on his life by wandering travelers with something to prove reminded me of.
Donât know if it's just because Max is still a little dazed from being hit through the gate by a deathclaw or if heâs just trying not to scare everyone else more but his voice sounds remarkably calm for having a crowd of panicked Freesiders and Thaddeus standing behind him watching all of this.
Not âHot Dogâ againâŠAh well, if anyoneâs gonna co-opt a catchphrase from a bad guy, Iâm glad Maximus gets to take this one away from Xander.
See you can tell that the showrunners played Fallout 3 and New Vegas because this is exactly how Old Omey and Quarry Junction are. You kill one or two deathclaws and then suddenly you have 5 or 6 more mob ya out of nowhere.
âKill meâ / âOh, please, no.â aw man, Lucy I am so sorry that this is your life now.
âWe canâŠpatch you up! MaybeâŠâ
Claudia tries to save Norm from Ronnie & Other 31sâŠ
Guys I was so stressed because I had no idea who that first girl who got mauled was and I thought it was Claudia for a second. But then realized it was probably that other girl who fell from her cryopod and got whacked in the face when she opened the ladder hatch and generally was a punching bag all season.
Here's my problem...There has been so little payoff in the Norm/31 plotline that this just doesnât feel all that engaging to me. Norm spending the last two episodes being knocked unconscious feels like the writers didnât really know what to do with him or his role in the plot as it relates to FEV/Phase 2 Experiment, and seeing the show randomly cut to him for the duration of one scene back in Ep4 felt like a flat out editing blunder to me. Why not save that for Ep5 when they arrived at the Vault Tec Tower? Swap in some other pre-war or gh*lcy banter or one of the Vault subplot scenes. Seems like that'd be more effective than 'Norm's still here and alive! We swear! We didn't forget him!' (They kinda forgot him)
Oh, alright, coming back to revisit this a few days after the fact and add on, I have read some great analyses of this scene in the past few days about how when Norm was able to convince the 31s to listen to him and work together, they were able to accomplish quite a bitt. But you could see that once that cooperation broke down and they werenât listening to Norm anymore, it quickly broke down and eventually cost most of the 31s their lives. Ronnie may have been Bud Askinâs personal assistant, but he made for a terrible leader.
I love all the Bakersfield mentions that ultimately are revealed to go nowhere because now weâre onto Colorado being The Place.
âRobert House wanted to turn human beings into machinesâ Oh good, more content I can use in my super indulgent Westworld x Fallout crossover AU.
Hankâs pained âcome on!â because this is now the 2nd time he has been non-fatally shot while attempting to force Lucy back into compliance.
(Close your eyes Iâm gonna be a little facetious for a second okay) What Could This Mean?
Couldn't fully express my appreciation for Max because I was trying not to make too much noise and disturb the other people who live in this house, but I did cover my mouth with one hand and punch the air when Max picked up the pool cue and broken roulette wheel as a parallel to when he picked up the crowbar and toilet seat from a random trash heap in S1.
What if Fallout 5 is finally the Fallout game that lets you use shields with melee weapons?
Me, a liar: I donât really care for the NCR.
the NCR veteran ranger in that recreation of the New Vegas intro cutscene: exists
Also I know itâs agreed that the game box art isnât actually Courier Six itâs just a random NCR ranger but in my own private mind palace thatâs the Courier posted up on the Silver Rush.
I like how Chet was so on board with chanting âopen up!â and banging on the door to the overseerâs office as if he and Norm didn't actually see the corpse of 32's former overseer tied to that chair when they were snooping around last season, but the minute people started shouting âdeath to management!â he realized what was going down like âohâŠoh noâŠâ
SoâŠIâd guess Norm would be hauling Claudia back to Vault 33, but I kind of suspect that theyâre just going to be lost in the wasteland for a time once we get into S3. I doubt that Norm knows where 33âs entrance really is, Claudia doesnât seem like she would know given that she was only a full employee for a week, and I really donât think thereâs anyone else currently on the surface they could ask who is going to know. Unless they do something like maybe Chet or Betty recognize that what Steph just did means they need to leave the vault and then possible one or both of them encounter Norm.
âThereâs gonna be a war and itâs all my faultâŠâ
âYeah, well⊠Welcome to the Wasteland.â Max, Chairman of the âStart a War That You Believe Could Have Been Preventedâ Committee.
âYou always end up back where you started,â being such a prominent theme in S2âs story, Iâm not surprised Cooper went off with Dogmeat in the end. I also will not be surprised if this gets him into a bad spot early on in S3 and we maybe finally get to see Lucy, Max, and Cooper all on screen at the same time. Learn to use the Veronica companion glitch already buddy. Or if weâre playing Fallout 4 standards, install a mod?
THEREâS A POST-CREDITS SCENE?! (/totally didnât immediately start the episode over as soon as the credits started rolling and then realized that there was an awful lot of time remaining in the episode when I got to the credits again)
DANE!! I AM SO RELIEVED YOU ARE NOT DEAD!!
QuintusâŠnot so much I want that old man to suffer a fatal heart attack and drop already.
LIBERTY FUCKING PRIME ALPHA
Why are we bringing back Liberty Prime. I know why. I know. Because itâs the Big America Robot from Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. And the Brotherhood always has to have it.
Overall guys...I don't know. I've said before that pacing isn't really a treatable cause. An issue with pacing is a symptom of an underlying issue with the writing itself, and you have to treat the writing at the root cause to clear up the unattractive symptoms. I still believe that. I still don't know how I feel about this season overall.
