It's a sign of growing up when things being not serious enough bothers you.
I think the push towards medicalizing every aspect of human life is deliberately intertwined with that. If you care about things, you must be autistic. If you're serious about caring about anything. You're only supposed to care about things perfomatively, half assedly posting snarky memes on whatever social media you use. But if you're serious about anything, you're disturbed. Why do you care if Wall Street rapes the planet? How does that affect you?
#to have the confidence of a mediocre white man #speaking on matters he knows nothing about
Hey @adamtheredbeard did you notice the image suspiciously cut off before the end of the tweet? I wonder if that softlib had anything else to say...
I see a lot of tags from Communists gloating in the reblogs, very confident that they know better than this guy...
But I'd wager that basically none of them do. It isn't just a matter of historical knowledge, either. For instance, "#mediocre white men" is part of a push for a form of scientific racism (based on "correct" race ratios that are just made up), and you didn't notice.
They talk about it a lot in others, but they tend to be pretty weak in their ability to spot when they're giving in to hatred and it's distorting their thinking.
I'm really sick of people dissing on figures like MLK because they weren't violent activists. They assassinated MLK because his activism was actually fucking WORKING. And that only made him a martyr and furthered progress for black America. Black America owes a LOT of its success in the fight for civil rights to MLKs pacifist approach.
Also, maybe don't point to Haiti of all places as evidence of successful violent revolution. Things have historically not gone well for Haiti.
Don't look up the UN human rights report for Angola,
we already know how things went in Cuba with the Castro regime, and how it's still going. Such a paradise that right up until obama decided to change the rules in retaliation for them voting for trump (that's my theory at least) we had people on homemade rafts risking their lives to get to the US. Not a thing folks do if they're living in a place worth living in.
folks may not be up to speed on Vietnam's current level of human rights repression,
South Africa is in the news currently enough that you should be able to see how they're doing without any difficulty,
And honestly I think they included Haiti as a joke, because seriously now.
I can keep going too, how are things going in China and North Korea lately?
Do you think Michael Crichton had a deep-seated hatred of theme parks because he was too tall for all the rides?
Yes.
[tumblr] is a flat circle.
Damn, it sure is huh
We should do this more on this website.
Person 1: -posts-
Person 2: -pulls out the historical documents-
I have been brought before the scriptures and my heresies found canonical.
I accept the judgement "unoriginal" and "should have looked it up first" but, in my inadequate defence, Tumblr's search function does fucking suck.
Defense found perfectly cromulent. Let Baddywronglegs free, and let no mark be against said blog.
"I have been brought before the scriptures and my heresies found canonical" is an all-time banger line.

just casually leaving this here for no particular reason
You know what? Fuck it I'm adding more context. Sesame Street has talked about the topic of death more than once and it's done with such gentle carefulness without watering down or censoring the heaviness of the situations. It treats heavy subject matter with respect and dignity and has been for DECADES. From the early 1980s:
To 2025:
Hell, they even cover the devastating heaviness of MASS SHOOTINGS without censoring or watering anything down.
They've been doing this for YEARS, and it's ALWAYS handled with dignity, respect, seriousness, understanding, and love.
Whenever I see people censoring words because it "might offend" someone or the big ad companies that are currently trying to run everything? I just want to say to them: "What? Is Sesame Street too mature for you?" Because really...what the hell are we doing.
Mister Roger's Neighborhood also covered difficult topics with respect, age-appropriately, and without pulling a single punch. It's crazy that we've worked ourselves up so much that we're self-censoring like it's always been the norm.
This clip is from 1968 and discussed assassination after Bobby Kennedy died.
I'm not sure when this clip originally aired, but it was likely sometime in the 1980s. They talk about murder and, incredibly by today's standards, what sort of emotions (anger, fear, loneliness) might drive someone to hurt or kill other people + how we can manage our own difficult or painful feelings.
The ability to talk about hard and awful things
is the ability to process these things.
taking away the words for bad things
means when they HAPPEN- and bad things will still happen around us-
WE CAN'T TALK ABOUT THEM without the WORDS.
When the word is accurate, USE THE WORD. Say Death. Say Murder. Say Rape. Say Prison, say Riots, say War, Say Famines and Disease. Say Bigotry. Say Hate crime. Say Racism. Say Fascism. Say Abuse. Say Hurt. Say Pain. Say Grief. Say Fear.
We must not lose the Truth of what a word means.
All of these things need to be talked about. Do Not GIVE UP YOUR WORDS.
Twitter is sometimes worth keeping around because of posts like these
is it possible to learn this power?
how excellent! i shall view these moving pictures immediately and see how flatteringly they depict my royal image!

I think what gets me about the concept of "solarpunk" specifically is that it's so much worse than steampunk or dieselpunk or whatever because it's entirely shallow and largely carried by "this is morally correct"
as much as I find steampunk bland and annoying, the seminal piece of steampunk art isn't a chobani commercial
you absolutely could do an interesting setting with widespread embracing of solar power, but you'd first have to deal with the uncomfortable parts of it, like that solar power isn't actually the most environmentally friendly power source, or that a solar utopia inherently requires rare earth metal mining
and just because they're both equally manufactured and people keep pairing the two, I'll swing at the hornet's nest a little harder
"hopepunk" as a genre is fake because it's characterised by being an inversion of "grimdark", a genre which also does not exist
