Pizza was once a food of the working man, made for factory workers in mind who had short breaks and needed something quick, filling and more importantly, cheap.

It consists of at least three ingredients, bread, tomato sauce and cheese, but other toppings like various meats or veggies (go to hell pineapple enjoyers) were also pretty cheap. Today, flour, yeast, salt, tomatoes and simple cheeses are still fairly cheap, maybe some extra effort in the sauce with some spices like oregano and basil, still cheap but for whatever reason, it's hard to find a place selling pizza for less than 20$ at a real restaurant and even the crappy chains like dominoes still charge around 15$. (Granted Little Caesar's hold's true with single digit hot and ready, but too much sugar in the crust/sauce imo)

I blame hipsters, which I realize I do a lot, but they're responsible for so many ails of society, like ribs also increasing in price. Pizza has all these fancy ingredients now days, the sauce has truffles for some bumblefuck reason, the cheeses are imported instead of being made in house and it's all bullshit and it costs 20$ now.

A whole pie should cost maybe 10$ considering inflation, a slice 1.50$. It's a fucking family meal, hipsters need to go away, it's for working men to feed themselves and their families.

The backgrounds for the entire series were done on black paper, a first for any animated show. It's Batman, which means everything is at night and incredibly dark. So, the majority of the backgrounds were going to be black anyways and using black paper would cut down on the time it took to create all of the backgrounds. Adding color over the black paper instead of the traditional method gave it a much more stylized look that helped make it iconic.

It also forced some other creative choices, such as using an airbrush to do all of the background art. During the early testing, they found that using an airbrush was easier to apply paint with than a paintbrush and that it looked better. Airbrushing let them be more experimental with painting techniques, such as the spattery fades you can see in the "Bane" and "Deep Freeze" title cards above or the soft, deeply shadowed face on "the Last Laugh." The overall effect of airbrushing on a black background is a much darker, moodier vibe than could be achieved with a traditional approach.
