this is really the main evidence we have of Sirius treating Harry like a James substitute (other than Mrs Weasley telling Sirius he talks as if he’s gotten his best friend back and Hermione saying it again later…though how much of that is just Hermione picking up from Molly idk) 

Sirius is being such a jerk lol; it’s understandable but I won’t say excusable esp to Harry, who loves him so much. But as I posted earlier, he hasn’t seen anyone in the Order all weekend (which means it’s just been him and Kreacher), he’s extremely lonely, he’s 100% gone stir crazy months and months ago, he’s probably a little jealous of Harry that he gets to go out and about

Harry isn’t like James either–in a lot of ways he is, but remember in DH, Dumbledore tells Snape he’s a lot more like his mother. I think Lily would definitely worry about Sirius being reckless more than James would

the question I have though is would James actually be okay with this type of risk? there are risks that make life fun and then there are risks that could get your bff’s soul sucked out. i’ve always seen Sirius as more reckless and self-destructive than James (obvs this is extrapolation too, we have very little text to work with lol) and I could maybe see a young James (17-20) thinking this would be an okay risk but a James after Harry is born, who’s matured a little? A 35 year old James? He’d probably not risk it either

This is the scene especially where we can see Sirius’ arrested development–clinging onto high school risks, lashing out at people, being immature. Again, understandable after spending most of his adult life in a soul-sucking prison, and also very, very sad
