This is a long rant but my TL:DR is if a person dresses, wears a name badge with a PHD listed, and talks like a chemist, they might be a chemist. So if someone likes lolicon, and wears a "waifu kanna" shirt, and has lolicon figures they might be a lolicon. The difference is one is surrounded by peers who check their work and verify their theories. The other may be surrounding themself with pedophiles unknowingly, or purposefully.
First if you "like" Lolicon or Shotacon, as in you just like that they're cuteee or they're silly cute anime blobs- this isn't about you. I do not think you're a lolicon or shotacon if it isn't sexual to you. The word is just not applicable. I can give a metaphor again; a grilled cheese needs to have cheese, you don't have the cheese. You would just be toast. (Light hearted connotations when I say that lol) Welcome to read my rant of course
So I will stick my neck out here to say my piece since the traction so far is pro-lolicon and pro-shotacon. I am for gatekeeping here through social censorship, not erasure or total banning. Loli and Shota is already tucked away right, like not easily accessible? That's what I am imagining the majority response will be to my take. Why are young girls still heavily sexualized in media? No not fictional media. Real media. Like reality TV, and celebrities and so on. Two fold in Japan. You know why (or should) there are still people actively seeking to harm children.
Sorry for coming off as fear-mongering-y. So you wanna jerk it to chibiusa or whatever, don't care. That's fine. You gotta do all of us favor, one that has gone unthanked for many years but one that us, non-Lolicon and non-Shotacon people appreciate: make sure your friends aren't pedophiles. It's all fictional right? Like it's not real kids in your porn. It's not hard to do, call someone out (or if appropriate get authorities) when someone who's a lolicon or shotacon comes out as a pedo. You're like the first line for treating pedophilia, treat this like a friend telling you they wanna harm someone else or kill themselves. You're doing them a favor by getting them proper therapy, assuming they haven't hurt a kid (at that point police need to be involved). There is far more nuance here than I can discuss, I am already speaking on behalf of too many. Please, don't let fiction become real. It's an ongoing trend of Loli/Shota media factoring into pedophilia, the same goes for a lot of anime communities.
This same shit applies to people who like gore, guns, or cars, or feral furries- like it just boils down to policing your own community and actively trying to help others. There is this defensive reaction (understandably so) when someone calls out Lolicons and Shotacons, the response from Loli/Shota fans is always "it's not real." Thank you for telling us, we know it's not real. Sorry you have to keep saying it. It turns out, fictional child porn attracts real pedophiles. Just like how cars attract chop shops. I'm not saying people who like Lolicon or Shotacon are pedophiles, I'm saying pedophiles like Lolicon and/or Shotacon. I'm asking for vigilance, participate in your community. Care about your friends.
This isn't exclusive to Loli/Shota either, this is a problem in all Otaku culture. Like I feel like I'm being pedantic here but it's 100% because of how kids were (and even now still are) depicted and treated in pop culture. By extent this stretches to women, minorities, disabled and so on- this is so vague and wildly off topic at a glance but the same groups I mentioned are not well received in the same online Otaku/Weeb spaces that like Loli/Shota (I know everyone experiences fandom different, but I am speaking very broadly)
Okay last thing, thank you to all the CSAM, SA and rape survivors for being alive here. I'm so sorry for those who did not survive. I do not want to erase those experiences, I don't want to hide them, I do however want to prevent rape, and SA, and CSAM. This is difficult for me to word, but we do not need Lolicon/Shotacon to share these experiences. There are other ways to convey trauma, I do not think fictional child porn is intended to help CSAM survivors feel seen. Regardless, many do feel that way. I'm also going to point out the obvious, rape porn, incest porn, so on and so forth, assuming they are legal and consensual, are all in this same rhetoric. It's just for fantasy, and pleasure. It's good to be seen still.
(the irony of typing this with a Rena Ryuugu pfp has not been lost on me) (don't like anime like that anyways)
