And you know why that is? Because they really don’t care about Venezuela’s reality. They really don’t care that there’s been 3 days of protests and we’re already on 27 dead people. Or that the GNB, FAES and Colectivos (government armed militias) are breaking into peoples homes, keeping people locked for hours on Cathedrals or gassing people until they faint. They just care about the idea of Venezuela being a communist country.

Sure! Although I’m really not good at explaining, so I’m just going to tell the story from the beggining:

Last year Maduro’s presidential term was over and we needed elections, however, elections in Venezuela haven’t been fair from a long time and most people -including myself- don’t believe in the electoral council since there has been proof they manipulate elections. Giving this and knowing that must of us were not going to vote, the government decided to move the elections from december (which is when they’re usually held) to May. However, these elections were not constitutional for many reasons, some of them are:

-The National Assembly (the congress) didn’t convoke to elections, the Asamblea Nacional CONSTITUYENTE (The pseudo-congress created by Maduro when we won the majority of the seats) did.

-Many politicians from the opposition were declared ineligible by the CNE, as well as their respective parties

-There were no international witnesses because the government didn’t accept them

Also, the participation in them was really low (the lowest percentage in the history of Venezuela, which is known for its high percentage of participation) 46% -according to the government, everyone knows it was lower-

Now, in January 5th Juan Guaidó assumed the charge of president of the National Assembly (more on this later).

In January 10 Maduro “took possession of power”, however, since the elections were declared unconstitutional, his inauguration was unconstitutional as well, with many countries not recognizing him as president of Venezuela. (Some of the few countries that did were Mexico, Bolivia, Russia, China, Turkey, Cuba and Nicaragua). This act was not only unconstitutional because of the factors I already mentioned, but also because he took possession with the Supreme Court (also declared unconstitutional because it was not chosen by the National Assembly) and not with the N.A’s president as the Constitution declares it should be.

Given all of this, the National Assembly’s President, Juan Guaidó, decided to take action evoking the article 233 of the Venezuelan Constitution, which says that if there is no elected president, a new election will take place during the next 30 days, meanwhile this process is done, the president of the National Assembly will be declared interim president of the Republic (I actually took the Constitution out of my bookshelf to translate it lol)

So, today, in a “Cabildo Abierto” (open council) Guaidó was declared in front of all of us interim president of Venezuela (it was important that it must had been done in front of the population to respect what a cabildo abierto is, a council in which decisions are done by the population.

However, Maduro and his government don’t recognize it, since they don’t recognize the National Assembly as legitimate ever since it was elected in 2015 (which is why he created his own parallel Congress and why you can call his government a dictatorship, since the five public powers are controlled by him)

The thing is, although Maduro doesn’t recognize it, the rest of the world does. Many countries including USA, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Perú, Ecuador, Panama, Kosovo, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Georgia, Honduras do, and that’s what’s important

Cus when I look for fandom related stuff like 90% of the fan art and the fanfiction and the meta, zines, comics, etc. Like 90% of the shit that I’ve seen is created by women & girls.

And all that stuff take’s a lot of work and research and critical analysis and staring at reference photos for hours.

Female fandom is creative. Females create fanart, cosplay, fanwritings. Female fandom ALTERS canon, for the simple reason that canon does not serve female fandom. In order for it to fit the ‘outsider’ (female, queer, POC), the canon must be attacked and rebuilt, and that takes creation.

“Male” fandom devalues this contribution to fandom, because it is not the ‘right’ kind of fandom. “Girls only cosplay for attention, they’re not REAL fans!” “Fanfiction is full of stupid Mary Sues, girls only do it so they can make out with the main character!” “I, a male artist, have done this pin-up work and can put it in my portfolio! You, a female artist, have drawn stupid fanart, and it’s not appropriate to use as a professional reference!”

In the mind of people who decry the ‘fake geek girl,’ this fandom is not as worthy. It damages, or in their mind, destroys the canon. What is the point of memorizing every possible romantic entanglement of heterosexual white Danny Rand if someone turns around and creates a fanwork depicting him as a bisexual female of Asian descent (thus subverting Rand’s creepy ‘white savior’ origins)? When Danny Rand becomes Dani Rand, their power is lessened. What is important to them ceases to be the focus of the discussion. Creation and curatorship can work in tandom, but typically, in fandom, they are on opposite poles.
