Peak play time: 1-2am.

Not evening. Not after dinner. The dead hours when everything else is off. Phones down, lights out, someone pulls up the game. That's when sessions spike.

It makes sense when you think about it. Horror works better at night. The campfire stories deck, the after dark confessions, the dares. They all land different at 1am with three friends on a sleepover versus 7pm on a Tuesday.

Scary Challenges is a free 18+ horror card game with 1,000+ cards across themed decks for sleepovers, groups and solo terror. What we didn't expect was how strongly the time-of-day signal would show up. The 1-2am window outperforms every other hour by a wide margin.

Another thing: campfire stories beat dares roughly 3:1 in that late-night window. During the day the ratio flips. People want atmosphere when it's dark.

Small data point, but it changed how we think about content ordering and default deck selection at Inithouse.

We noticed something weird in our session data.

Groups of 4 play almost twice as long as groups of 6 or more. Sounds backwards, right? Bigger group = more energy = longer game? Nope.

Four people hit a sweet spot. Everyone gets enough turns to actually care. Nobody sits waiting for too long. The cards land harder when you know everyone at the table.

Once you get past 6, people start checking their phones. Side conversations split off. Someone suggests switching to something else. The game doesn't die all at once: it just fades out.

Found a box of old family photos last month. Probably 30 of them, mostly from the 60s and 70s. Some were so faded you could barely make out the faces.

I scanned them with my phone (just the regular camera app, nothing fancy) and uploaded them to Živá Fotka, a tool we built at Inithouse. It turns a static photo into a short video where the person blinks, smiles, moves their head slightly. Takes about 60 seconds per photo.

What surprised me: the worst photos gave the best results. The idea came from how we actually use tarot. Not as prophecy, but as a pause. A card gives you a word or a feeling to sit with for a moment. The Hermit. The Star. Three of Cups. You read the text, think about it or don't, and move on with your day.

We called it Tarotas. It runs all 78 cards with interpretations in five languages (English, Czech, Polish, Slovak, German). Everything works in the browser. No app to install, no account needed.

Some people pull a card every morning with coffee. Others check in when something feels off and they can't name why. There's no right way to use it.

We found a black-and-white photo of a colleague's grandmother. Taken sometime in the 1960s, creased at the corners, slightly faded.

We uploaded it to Alive Photo and hit animate.

Eight seconds later, she blinked. Turned her head. The fabric of her dress shifted.

Nobody in the room said anything for a moment.

Old photos that suddenly move do something to people. We've watched it happen dozens of times now. Someone uploads a grandparent's portrait, the animation renders, and then there's this pause before they react.

We built Alive Photo as a simple tool: upload a photo, get a short animation back. No account needed. Your photos get deleted after processing. The whole thing takes about 10 seconds.

Black-and-white shots work particularly well. The contrast gives the animation more to work with, and the results feel less like a filter and more like a recovered moment.

A few patterns we've noticed: old portrait-style photos produce the most convincing results. Group shots are trickier. The sweet spot is a single face looking roughly at the camera.

we'd been building Origin Of You, a tool that assembles a written portrait of who you are from 120+ data points across five different frameworks. personality, values, patterns. the question was: does knowing where you come from change the portrait?

so we fed in what we had. grandparents' city, a great-aunt's profession, the fact that three generations picked the same kind of work without ever discussing it.

Origin Of You connected things we hadn't seen. two branches of the family, different countries, similar patterns. the portrait went past personality traits. it traced where they might have come from.

when we shared the result with family, everyone added something. a detail, a correction, a story nobody had written down. the portrait became collaborative.

family history works best as a group effort. so does understanding yourself.

You start mild. "Tell the group your most irrational fear." Fine, whatever. But three rounds later you're doing a sensory challenge in complete darkness with a 30-second timer, and the person next to you is laughing so hard they can barely breathe.

Six people. One living room. Candles, a projector, curtains drawn at 8pm on a Saturday.

We'd planned a horror movie marathon at the Inithouse office. The usual lineup of jump-scare classics. But just watching movies felt too passive. We wanted something that kept everyone on edge between films.

So we pulled out Scary Challenges, one of the products we've been building at Inithouse. It's a free horror card game with 1000+ cards, dare/truth with a creepy twist. You draw a card, you do the thing. Simple.

It didn't stay simple.

Between Insidious and The Conjuring, someone drew: "Say Bloody Mary three times in front of the bathroom mirror. Alone. Lights off." Nobody did it. We sat there in silence for about 15 seconds. Then someone suggested the next card instead.

The next one hit harder: "Tell a real creepypasta from your childhood." Not something you read online. Something that actually happened, or that you believed happened when you were eight. That one turned the whole night sideways. Two people told stories that genuinely made the room quiet.

Watching someone get chased on a screen? Tense, but you're safe. Drawing a card that dares you to do something in a dark room? That's a different kind of scared.

The movies ended around 2am. Nobody left. We kept drawing cards for another hour.
