One of the things that Derek totally hates about humans is their tendencies to cheat. To werewolves mates are sacred. Once they find their other half they mate for life and devout every breath to keep a strong bond with their mate.

But humans? Derek has seen them cheating before, after and while getting mated. (-The word is "married", Derek. -Same thing)

He has seen them talk shit about their mates behind their backs and then act as if everything was ok. He's smelled the lovers around newlyweds. He's seen human mates hurting and killing each other on the morning News.

Humans are dishonest, disloyal, deceitful, unreliable. Even for their own kind.

Then why does he feel so safe around Stiles?

Why does he feel that he can trust him?

derek running himself almost feral searching for a stiles that doesn't have control over his new shifter abilities yet, only to find him peacfully napping in some random patch of forest.

cue lots of growling and furious lecturing a la this:

Stiles: Who told me I couldn't be gay dressed like I usually do.

Stiles: Now I'm married to an alpha werewolf with abs for days.

Everyone: *clapping awkwardly*

Stiles: Where's Danny? Danny, remember how I kept asking you if I was attractive to gay guys.

Stiles: Well... Seems like I am attractive to guys with biceps bigger than my head.

Isaac (whispering to Derek): Is this how you imagined your wedding?

But then I got to thinking about the Nemeton and how Paige’s life was sacrificed there at great cost to Derek and I think that it forms a connection with Derek in a way. So as Derek’s tragic life continues, the tree feels all the suffering he goes through. Then when the sacrifice goes wrong for Stiles, the tree recognizes him because of Derek and even though Stiles doesn’t have his proper anchor, the tree gives him back to Derek—albeit a bit damaged and thus the nogitsune—because it recognizes that they anchor each other.

Once Derek finally returns after everyone has left, I feel like the Nemeton senses his loneliness and gives him a child made with the two people he genuinely loved. That’s why the only trait Eli seemed to get from Derek was the werewolf one: his genes were fighting for their lives against two other sassy, mole covered, sarcastic brown eyed humans. He never stood a chance.

Forget gruff top Derek and leetle softboi Stiles. Give me tired, jumpy Derek who can only finally let his mask down and work through his trauma around his boyfriend, who maybe doesn't seem like much at first glance, but goes toe-to-toe with crazed shapeshifters and kicked a demon out of his own body and once held paralyzed Derek up in a pool for two fucking hours do you know how much denser muscle is than fat?! Derek had the buoyancy of a goddamn anvil.

Derek is soft and forced to act tough. Stiles is tough as hell but constantly dismissed and underestimated. Derek offered to teach Scott how to be a wolf but couldn't because he was born one. Stiles figured it out with one night, an internet connection, and a fistful of Adderall (and a nice big dose of spite XD).
