he understood. he really did. but at the same time, he could see the twitch in Bruce's jaw the moment that Hal's head hit his shoulder. allowing the gentle pressure linger for perhaps a little longer than he should have, Clark jostles his shoulder slightly in an attempt to rouse Hal. unable to keep his lips from twitching slightly in a fight not to smile when Hal snorts and sits back upright.

"perhaps we should hold off on this meeting as clearly some of us could use some sleep." it wasn't often that he pushed back when Bruce was on his usual rant. but it was clear that several at the table could use a good few hours of unconsciousness.

really the only thing about the question that concerns him is the way kara was sitting while asking it. Clark was sure that nothing about her current position was comfortable in the slightest. though that thought may stem from the fact that he was attempting to imagine himself in it and that... well there was no way that would work. he had a foot on her... not the point here.

"I suppose that would depend..." he starts. "which god are you talking about? because that will effect the answer." some of them Clark thought they had a decent chance. other's maybe not so much. but Kara had said fight, she'd never said anything about winning.

a snort leaves him. "in theory we could, I guess." though a thought slams into him like a bullet. rounding on her with an incredulous look on his face.

"are you planning on fighting a god any time soon?"

they were discussing a case that involved a criminal organization spanning both cities. attempting to come up with a plan on how to hit them both at once in the most effective way possible with the least amount of injuries to innocents. or at least that was what Clark had thought that they were doing. Bruce had been quiet for a long few moments. heart beat and breathing as even as always. the assumption that Bruce is just deep in thought holds until a solid weight presses against his side and a head lands on his shoulder.

there's a flash of fear that sparks through him before he risks a glance at the other. a breath rushing from his nose when he finds Bruce asleep against him. it's equal parts amusing as it is terrifying. the mild fear crept back in for a whole new reason now.

much like a cat. one does not simply wake The Batman.

luckily for both of them sitting completely still for hours on end was not something that Clark was incapable of doing. and he does. much like a statue he reads through the case files three, four, five maybe six times taking his time to memorize every piece of information. every note in Bruce's clean handwriting.

he doesn't remember dozing off himself, but when he opens his eyes again there is sunlight creeping along the floor and Alfred is quietly pushing the door open.

This was his safe space, where he was free. Now he felt crummy as those stupid words came out of his mouth. Superman's face shifted but not into anger. It was worse; sadness. The clone clenched his fist tighter until knuckles turned white before releasing his breath in a huff. Guilt was a bitch and worked faster than rage.

The retort that may have bubbled up was swallowed, unsure how to answer the question. How did he know the difference, clearly the clone sucked at it. Not perfect, not real.

"Superman."

The delivery was sharp, hands unclenching to cast in the air as an unsure gesture. It was his name until the real one came back. Now he had nothing to call himself and like hell he would ever claim '13'. "Never had a need for another."

Clark can't really argue that the other's name isn't Superman. he had no idea what information that had been fed to the other. what brainwashing the younger had endured in however long his life had been so far. doing his best to adopt a more comfortable stance as they lingered there a hundred or so feet above the ground. he didn't want the other to feel as though they were at odds. neither of them asked for this. and far be it for Clark to blame the younger for existing. there was only one person to blame for this.

"you might not have needed another. but have you wanted a name of your own?"

he didn't have anything to offer the other, outside guidance and companionship. but if the younger wanted another name he would do his best to come up with one that was fitting for him. there was a determination in that. the other was a person and a being in his own right and he didn't deserve to have to live with being a clone over his head.

"I don't know how to prove it to you, but I'm not here stop you or whatever you're thinking right now. I just want to help. but if you don't want it I'm not going to force it on you." it was a fire line between being concerned for the other's wellbeing and being overbearing. yet, Clark refused to let the younger feel alone in this.

a soft breath leaves him, daring to move closer to the other. "I can handle your anger, if you need someone to take it out on."

a mix of everything really. it depends on the night. the weather. the kind of day that he had. how tired he is. when he sleeps on his own he's all over the place. blanket on. blanket off. holding a pillow. not even using a pillow. but if he's sharing his bed with someone he's glued to them the whole night. so i hope you like sweating to death while you try to sleep, apply within.

well as a reporter.. a pen and a little notebook for sure. if he has a backpack with him then he probably has a camera in there. a old film camera that used to belong to Ma.

Clark doesn't hide it well. he wears his heart on his sleeve and it bleeds everywhere. but the quickest way to set him off would be to question his intentions. to assume he was doing something for a negative reason. and then the obvious of hurting / threatening the people that he cares about. putting innocent people in danger. the list is very long.

[ 🌀 ]ㅤ.ㅤdo they have a recurring dream or nightmare ?

there are a few recurring dreams that Clark has about his biological parents, he's not sure if they're memories or if it's just wishful thinking. but they crop up at least once a week. nightmares are less common for Clark, but they're very prevalent after something big happens. the situation twisting into something far more dark and horrifying. he can usually shake them off pretty easily but there have been times when he's been kept awake by a nightmare.

the meaning of home is strange for Clark. home is absolutely not a physical building for him. it's the people that he cares about that are home for him. being with Ma and Pa. the people at the Daily Planet. the Justice League. Kara. his sons. hell even the robots at the fortress feel like home to him.

boots stop on the smooth floor of the fortress. eyes squinting slightly at the sight of her hand held up to stop him in his tracks. confusion and concern bloom in his chest. Clark didn't like the direction this could be heading towards. either something bad was coming or something had happened to her. either way he wasn't thrilled about the wordless greeting that was setting his nerves on edge.

--- the finger wag had dean lifting his hands defensively and laughing through his words. "not kicking out. i just didn't think you needed to hang around on my account. i figured you'd have bigger and better things to do." but he wasn't going to argue or push when he stopped at the end of his bed. was he actually suggesting that clark head out? well, maybe a little. the need to figure out what was going on was still there of course, but how often did he get the chance to talk to superman? he wasn't going to push too hard. he still had time to kill before he could pull his plan off anyway.

still 11 people in danger. dean huffed at the idea and chuckled. he couldn't really argue with it. after all, he was the one sitting in a hospital bed. regardless, he couldn't resist. "i didn't know you counted yourself in those situations," he gave him a knowing little grin in return. was clark really in danger? not usually, but dean still thought it was funny to turn it back on him.

the mention of gotham had dean's brows lifting momentarily before he chuckled again. clark, of course, had no idea that he just confirmed so much for dean with that one sentence. the hunter's mind was back to spinning over the possibilities. so if gotham was real that had to mean other places existed too, right? he covered with a shake of his own head then let it fall back into the pillows. there were so many times he questioned how this was his life and this was very much one of those moments. "ya know, i think i'll take your advice on that. i've heard the stories about gotham." heard them, watched them, and read them in fact. "i think i'll take a chunk of concreate to the noggin' rather than chance whatever they got goin' on there."

this was exactly why he was glad he did his job at night for the most part. there was a lot less of a chance of people getting in the way. a loss to worry about. yeah, he might have to lie about who he was, no one thanked him, he was no "hero" in the typical sense, but the trade off made it worth it in his eyes.

"you seem like you're usually up for the challenge, at least." dean had no doubt that if he wasn't there those people still would have been safe. he was just following his gut instinct to lend a hand, but he still knew that superman would have had it handled. "i'm sure it would be nice to not have to split your focus as much like that but it's pretty incredible how low some people's survival instincts are. i don't envy what you do, trust me. even if the whole super strength thing seems pretty damn cool."

"well see, that is where you're wrong. there is nothing bigger or more important than the people who were put in danger by the things I've done my best to put a stop to." and nothing would stop him from keeping his eye on those that were harmed in the meantime. it felt irresponsible not to. especially when it could be labelled his fault that it happened in the first place. he didn't have it in him to turn a blind eye and act as though he didn't care.

Clark finds himself snickering and shaking his head softly. "and you're wrong again. of course I consider myself in danger in those situations. I would hate to find a limitation in the middle of a fight." even if he wasn't in the habit of being cocky and sure of himself, he knew that if something was to take him out. there was likely no one else that could take it out. "so I suppose that that would make it 12 people in danger today."

shifting slightly as the conversation turns to Gotham, he does he best to not betray the discomfort that the situation across the bridge left him with. he'd made his willingness to help more than well known. if Gotham's own protector didn't want his help… well there was nothing that he could do about that. "I don't think that the stories do it much justice…" but that was not a conversation for a time like this. though he can't keep the laugh to himself when Dean makes the comment that he does. "I would appreciate that you don't do anything like that again, if you don't mind." unfortunately, at the end of the day, he had no control over what Dean did once they parted ways.

there's an unconscious shifting under the thinly veiled praise that comes from the other. he still didn't know how to handle such things. "I have a duty," he offers. it was all that he could offer. he was here and he could help, so why shouldn't he? it was what he'd been sent here to do. to help. "I suppose it's easy to think that when you didn't grow up trying to figure it out so that you didn't crush everything you touch."

even that had nothing on trying to get the heat vision under control.
