(ok i wrote this like a year ago and forgot to post it, but I think it still stands)
My rvb hot take bc I'm rewatching the show rn...
Season 15 is probably one of the best seasons.
While the mirrored Reds and Blues were a cliched concept, I liked seeing just how similar/different the cast was compared to their counterparts in both obvious and subtle ways (Example: Loco can take simple ideas and build them into something more complex, meanwhile Caboose can take complex ideas and break them down into something more simple; Surge is willing to serve anyone that will give him orders regardless of their alignment, meanwhile Sarge is able to break away from orders when he feels like they go against his values)
Sarge's character arc of finding an enemy to fight feels regressive...until you realize that everytime until this point, everytime Sarge has had to settle his differences with the Blues, it's because there's been a bigger enemy to fight (Maine, The Director, Charon Industries. etc.). Once they get to Iris, there's no longer someone else worse to fight but...Sarge, at this point, likes the Blues enough to no longer see them as a true enemy, thus leaving him in a vulnerable position where he lacks the opposition he needs to provide structure to his life.
Locus REDEMPTION MY BELOVED-
Loco's character arc leading to his betrayal was so fucking subtle, but god I loved it. Him hiding the fact that their stupid drill was secretly a time machine so he can surprise Temple with possibly reuniting with Biff, just to end up giving that chance to Caboose instead bc he recognizes that Temple would rather destroy everything than say goodbye and let go.
Locus, Lopez, and Grif are a delightful trio and I'm sad we didn't get more of them.
The fact that Temple loses in the end bc he can't bring himself to kill the Reds and Blue's "Biff" equivalent...perfection.
Grimmons breakup and get back together. Also them beating up Jax when he's "waiting for the kiss", amazing.
Grif actually showing that he cares about his friends, and that he's probably smarter than he makes himself out to be (how the fuck does one simply master a second language in a few weeks just to do an accurate impression? Man's a genius)
Caboose being able to FINALLY say goodbye to Church properly (even if Church wouldn't understand in that moment)
honestly I think it really sucks that this season had to get retconned with the rest of the "Shisno Trilogy", because if you cut out the last bit that sets up seasons 16-17, it actually fits really well into the show's general themes of letting things go without them being forgotten.
