If you're wondering how well the new UK internet ID law is going to be protecting the children: as it turns out it took people about 30 seconds to figure out you could trick the AI face recognition software with video game characters doing different poses (specifically this guy from Death Stranding 2).

An incomplete list of ways people have supposedly been able to bypass this law:

Googling UK driver's license and uploading the first image that pops up

Borowing SpongeBob SquarePants' driver's license

Using the Sims 4 CAS to pass the face ID using an old looking Sim.

Keir Starmer's Porn Pass: Creating fake IDs with the personal information of prime minister Keir Starmer specifically to access freaky porn sites.

Literally just using a free or cheap VPN.

From what I've learned, it's also a serious data privacy risk to use your actual face or documents for the verification! You have to keep in mind that all those random websites that are now required by law to verify the ages of their users are not using a secure method provided by the UK government. They're using third party apps. Often owned and operated by companies in countries with weak data protection laws and no such thing as GDPR.

So it's not just an ineffective law, it's actually dangerous. When you upload a fake ID or a random stock photo instead of your own face, you're protecting yourself. Because who knows what those companies will do with your data and likeness, and what will happen to it in the event of a data breach.

It hurts my heart Buffy doesn’t get to continue her education. I really like to think post Chosen she does get to go back, since the weight of the world isn’t solely on her shoulders anymore. When she really applied herself she did so well, she even got better grades than Willow. She loved her poetry class and she was so sad when she dropped out. The only reason she didn’t apply herself in high school was because she knew there was no point. She knew she would be too busy saving the world until it eventually killed her. She knew she was going to die young. I want to believe after Chosen she got to have all the parts of a normal life that she wanted. She gets a good education, she gets normal birthdays, she gets to ice skate. Imagine our girl with hobbies ;-; She could scrapbook with Dawnie. I need everyone to list the fun things Buffy could get to do after Chosen

The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?”
