Another absolutely moronic thing about KoS is the amplifier retcon. Apparently, killing magical animals and wearing their bones was the wrong way to do it, and the superior, righteous way was…to let the animal kill you while you are killing them, which let you two spiritually unite, gives you enhanced powers and also grants you an ability to turn into the animal you "bonded" with.
Do I even need to explain why it doesn't make any sense? While the concept of animal familiars/companions is not new, those usually get to keep their own bodies. And we are talking about spirits that have to possess humans; they do that because they are...well, spirits and don't have their own corporeal form. But there is absolutely no reason for any creature to forfeit their own body to become a free power battery for some puny magician.
The puny magician in question also has to pray and hope that an ancient magical being inside their head won't find a way to take control over their measly human brain and will not eventually turn them into their meat puppet.
And then you remember that some humans are also ampifiers, which brings us to the whole new level of fucked up. Just remember how much stink about "enslavement" and "exploitation" was raised when Alina had to glow against her will for the whole two minutes, but forcibly merging another living creature with you so you can use them as a free magical booster forever is fine, I guess.
And the ancient wanker Juris yaps about how those nasty Grisha corrupted and twisted that practice. Maybe because spiritually imprisoning another living creature, denying them even their own body, is 1000 times worse than simply killing them, you fucking psychopath?
