revamped character analysis/theory: rob knows right from wrong and he feels remorse for doing bad things. BUT he feels meaningless because of his past, so he thinks his actions don't really matter.
in The Disaster, he ruins gumball's relationships with his loved ones. he turns his family against him, his parents turn away from each other, his girlfriend turns away from him... but rob doesn't have a family, parents, or a lover. rob knows it's mean, but he doesn't understand just how much those things matter to gumball. like how a blind person doesn't know how colors look.
at the end of The Rerun, gumball is clearly terrified. instead of comforting gumball, rob expresses his gratitude and his guilt. IMO this is proof that he does care about gumball and feel remorse, but he didn't understand how traumatized gumball was.
in The Inquisition's ending scene, after his plan has been foiled, he asks out loud, "why did they stop me?" if he knew how much he'd scared and angered the students with his plan, he would NOT have been confused about that
some more silly examples: The Spinoffs, where rob is oblivious to the power of william's telepathy, and he continues to let tobias get hurt even though tobias is his favorite actor.
The Ex, where he's more sympathetic because he UNDERSTANDS the nemesis dynamic between him and gumball. he knows how much it matters to both of them. this is why he lets gumball down gently.
looking at The Rewrite now, i still stand by this take, but i think he's improved. despite him saying he's going to kill gumball, his villain plan is so much more light-hearted that gumball and darwin just laugh it off afterwards
that's all, i noticed that the original post i made with this take was about a year old so i wanted to make a new spin on it
Just cos he's big doesn't mean he doesn't like softness
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, āwhatās the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?ā and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is āunofficialā, and we know thatās not the right word, but itās the only word we can come up withā¦until finally itās like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is āartificialā.
I couldn't remember the word "doorknob" ten minutes ago.

NEW HEADCANON JULIUS HAS HELLO KITTY PLUSHIES UNDER HIS BED OQISIWUEEJAOAKCDOWJSWW
The Demon Who Saved a God: An In-Depth Analysis of Chara's Salvation
Artwork commission done by @bewalkedi which was paid for by me!
Gather here, young UTDR fans. And let this old, grumpy veteran of the 2010-era Undertale fandom tell you about the day the Chara Wars were won.
On a quiet Sunday evening on September 21st, 2025, the Undertale fandom was struck by what can only be described as the Tsar Bomb of truth nukes. In a single instant, a decadeās worth of bad takes and bogus fanon was completely and thoroughly annihilated.
The warhead that caused such great and terrible devastation was made of a simple 9-word-long sentence:
To those of you who are new to this fandom, it seems like nothing more than a neat lore drop. But for those of us whoāve been fans since the mid to late 2010s... we all felt like the Rebel starfighter pilots watching the 2nd Death Star blow up. We all knew what it meant: our favourite rose-cheeked, cocoa-loving freak was finally free from the clutches of media illiteracy!
With this statement, Toby Fox demonstrated that they were no less deserving of salvation than every other character in Undertale. That they were anything but an irredeemable megalomaniac that saw everyone as instruments to be used and wanted nothing more than to spread misery, havoc, and destruction wherever they went.
The war was finally over! They beat the allegations! And Toby Fox ensured that anyone who dared to utter the phrase "Chara is evil!" would be ridiculed, roasted, and ratioed to high heaven.
And yet... something about this whole thing kinda bothered me.
While I was certainly euphoric to see Toby Fox confirm Charaās salvation, I couldn't help but wonder how exactly it all happened. But sadly, it seemed like nobody knew how it went down either. No matter where I looked on Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit, or any other corner of the fandom, no one had a definitive answer as to how Chara was saved.
It seemed that, in true Chara lore fashion, this was something that Toby Fox would forever leave shrouded in ambiguity and uncertainty. Maybe the truth is that this was just cheap fan service or some half-baked retcon, made without any care for how it would affect the story of Undertale...
...OR IS IT!?!?
After a good few months of research and analysis, I've come to the conclusion that Chara's salvation in the Pacifist Run was not as brilliant or well-thought-out as you think it is.
IT'S EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You thought Chara's character was fantastic before? Oh, my fellow hellsite user, you are in for a heck of a treat! You DO NOT have the FAINTEST IDEA just how much the phrase "Now there is one person left to save... Chara" does, for not just their character, but for the narrative and themes of Undertale as a whole!!!
So it's with great pride and greater pleasure that I present to you in deeeeeeeeliciously autistic detail (and yes I am autistic thanks for asking!) the ABSOLUTELY FANTABULOUS REDEMPTION ARC OF ONE CHARA DREEMURR!
Chapter 1: "At first, I was confused."
Now, before we can get into how Chara changed for the better, I think it's important that I demonstrate to y'all that they were capable of change in the first place.
freaky fucking flowers!
A bouquet of 7 flowers š
An Analysis on The Seven Flowers (And Asgore)
(CHAPTER 5 SPOILERS)
I've seen a lot of posts floating around theorizing about why the flowers don't follow their soul traits, and I've developed my own interperatation over the past few days since playing the chapter myself.
The six colored flowers don't follow their traits because their perceptions are warped, as a reflection to how Asgore's perception of reality has warped since his life fell apart as he fell deeper and deeper into endless theorizing and isolation.
Orange should embody bravery, but she has a hard time being brave alone... Yellow should embody justice, but his sense of justice is easily swayed... Green should embody kindness, but they have no problem with assisting in acts that they should be bothered by... Aqua should be patience, but she is incredibly inpatient and has trouble waiting... Blue should be integrity, but hides his true intentions... Seth should be perseverance, but they give up easily... Asgore, as a former police chief, should be capable of solving a case like his, but he loses himself in his work...
He should have embodied these traits, but... because his perception of reality has shifted so drastically, he lost sight of how to properly work with them.
The flowers cling to Asgore, because despite his isolation, he always took the time to speak with them... since he could rarely speak with anyone else below surface level greetings and work-related discussions.
And, what about Flowery?
Flowery's case is interesting, but I do have several thoughts.
The one friend who stuck by Asgore for a long time, and still does... is Rudy. The two met in college, and seemingly remain close.
This is the one person who never truely left Asgore, or threatens to, in his eyes. Therefore, he likely views Rudy as someone who is truely larger than life, irreplacable, as his one and only best friend.
Flowery describes himself as Asgore's buddy from college. He is often overly friendly towards him, spending as much time with him as possible. He even calls him "Gorey", a nickname supposedly used by Rudy that is revealed in a piece of flavortext in Undertale.
In summary, Flowery is how Asgore views Rudy, a projection of what Asgore likes about him. Or, so it was.
Asgore quickly realizes Flowery is too clingy, that his ideal version of his best friend that he subconciously sculpted out of his warped perception of him, is not anything compared to the real deal.
And, what about the absense of the determination trait?
I actually wouldn't say it's absent.
We all know that Kris has the red determination soul due to the player, but the presense of determination is in many other places in this chapter.
It's with Susie, as she is determined to help out her friends in a dire situation.
It's with Ralsei, as they are determined to prove themselves as their own person, aside from the prophecy that they clung to so desperatly from the past.
It was with Flowery, as he was determined to preserve Asgore's dream reality, "the flower's dream" by questioning Ralsei's need for theirs.
And, it's with Asgore... despite his lack of authenticity when it comes to the other six traits, he remains determined to find answers to what happened on that day.

Itās so refreshing to see an openly effeminate gay black man in a game like deltarune. Like Iām white but there are so many damn pieces of popular media where itās just white or light East Asian people when itās just. Whereās everyone else. And now we have a visibly black gay man fagging out with the worlds largest suicide risk and just being awesome as fuck for the entire time heās on screen. I love you blue.
More flower men, as promised. (Yellow has a tail now too!)
THEY MAKE ME KIND OF SICK
i dont normally find myself too attached to the darkner characters (with the exception of ralsei, lancer, and queen the goats lol) but oh man the flowers were so so good i love all seven of them honestly
iāve always been fond of blue and yellow flowers šš + orange cuz sheās adorableee

Spamton & Pink are two sides of the same coin that is Kris
Iāve seen a lot of people complain that Pinkās placement as a secret boss in chapter 5 is disconnected or unfitting. but i think she's actually perfect for the last secret boss, especially if secret bosses are meant to symbolize a desire for freedom. Now i will yap about it for several paragraphs
several parallels are built between Spamton and Pink during her fight, which make it clear theyāre meant to be compared. their designs both feature pink and gold, they both steal a body that isnāt theirs, theyāre both involved with green strings, they both feature Mad Dummy in their boss fight/theme, are both puppets related to cats, and they both have odd connections to the weird route (as evidenced by the translation of Cutie Mew Mew Magic). in almost every other way however, Spamton and Pink are opposites. Spamtonās story is a tragedy; from the start, his rainbow-colored peers donāt accept him as their own and see him as lesser for being different and less capable. heās a broken and decrepit doll whoās had life screw him over every step of the way, heās been abandoned by everyone he ever loved and cared about, his body has been marred beyond recognition, heās treated as a living puppet with no autonomy or freedom, and he doesnāt get to keep his dream body or āfuse with his chosen vessel'. Even after being defeated by the fun gang, none of his problems are fixed; he has no choice but to accept his status as a simple puppet. Spamton is Krisā worst case scenario. they are terrified this is going to be their own future, theyāre visibly shaken by Spamtonās fight unlike any other in the entire game.Ā i think the reason Chapter 2 in particular features a character which symbolizes such a depressing future for Kris is because Chapter 2ās dark fountain is created by the Roaring Knight. a character which Kris is very heavily implied to have some kind of partnership with, one where the Knight holds power and control over Kris (as evidenced by the knighting scene after their fight, and the high probability that the Knight is the person who talks to Kris on the phone and sends them orders). the dynamic Kris has with the Knight can be compared to the relationship Spamton had with his benefactor, where he must follow orders from a mysterious voice on the phone lest he be punished (and punished he was).Ā by this point in the story, Kris is both being metaphorically puppeted by the Knight, and literally puppeted by the player, leaving them feeling a complete loss of autonomy. this situation is opening way to Krisā worst future. one where they are abandoned by everyone and thrown aside like an unwanted puppet. like Spamton. in Chapter 5 however, the dark fountain is created by Kris instead. though the creation of the fountain was clearly premeditated (likely to get time for the Knight to kidnap Asgore), i donāt think itās crazy to say that part of the reason they created it in the moment was to distract Susie from the Rudy situation. to keep Susie happy, because they donāt want her best day ever being ruined by the news. Kris cares about Susie so, so much, and itās clear sheās a huge part of the reason Kris can now see a future for themself where things arenāt so bad. this hope manifests as Pink.Ā Pink is present in Krisā subconscious before Chapter 5 even begins. Kris plays Shop 3 on the piano in Noelleās house, a song which is later present in the shop owned by Pink. Shop 3 shows a more somber side to Pinkās character, as she simply watches the sunset, captivated by how freeing it feels to be able to do so in her dream body.Ā Pink herself, of course, is very much a parallel to Kris, being a Darkner and a Lightner both using the same body, who struggle with differing wants and desires and must ultimately learn to cooperate with each other despite that (which may hint towards the idea that Kris' ideal ending would be them and the player learning to understand each other, rather than one or the other being banished for good).
even though Pink isnāt really a flower, when she pretends to be one, HER rainbow-colored peers all see her as one of them and accept her with open arms, uncaring of her strange circumstances. In the end, Pink gets to keep her dream body and watch the sunset with her best friend. All things Spamton desperately wanted and never got to have, and all things Kris hopes to have. Pink is Krisā best case scenario, their subconscious manifesting a future for them where everything ends up fine, even if just for a little while.
Spamton being an example of Kris' worst self/future doesn't mean he isn't deserving of kindness and safety though, quite the opposite. Krisā self improvement journey is mirrored by the fact that showing Spamton kindness at his lowest will reward the player with the Dealmaker, an item which reduces Puppet/Cat damage by 40%, greatly helping to defeat Pink (aka help her in her self discovery journey), while choosing to hurt Spamton will just give you the Puppet Scarf, a near useless item that doesnāt help at all with Pinkās fight. the same way being shown kindness by Susie and Ralsei was the only way Kris got motivation to keep going despite all the bullshit happening in their life. on the other hand, doing the weird route will make Spamton, a manifestation of Krisā worst self, a mandatory boss. He will become HIS worst self, he will hurt others and accept his role as a puppet if it means he can gain freedom in some small way, before being killed, leaving the player with a Puppet Scarf no matter what. An item which will either be, again, completely useless for defeating Pink in an āabortedā weird route, or wonāt be utilized at all in a side B weird route, as Pink is completely inaccessible, with Krisā hopes for a better future being completely destroyed and their life ending in a similar way to how Spamtonās did. their worst nightmare came to fruition.
