Imagine being the gays at a pride event in 2004 living their lives when someone grabs the microphone and announces to the room that Ronald Reagan was pronounced dead. Can you even imagine the hype, the celebration, the pure elation
This is the Pride Month that It will happen. I feel it in my gay bones
well maybe you should blearily wake up at 5:08 in the pre-dawn light and find the sleeping soft tiny mammal body of your cat just inches from your head like a miracle too beautiful for speech, and you should rustle one hand out from your blankets to rub fingertip circles across the warm eggshell dome of her little velvet-wrapped skull and on the bristly patches just where the cups of her ears begin, and as she inclines her head into your fingers and purrs without ever opening her little eyes you should feel a love so tender that you understand how that love could have reached out from the fireside into the inky spangled nights long gone to reach her, and then you'll feel better
i am at a complete loss as to how to adequately express to you how much this cat throws up yeah
you don't even have a dog

yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
that’s not the whole flag, now is it
hey staff what the fuck
hey staff don't you think you're being too on-the-nose
HEY STAFF DONT YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING TOO ON-THE-NOSE
@staff ???

I wanna see those hats FLY
i don't think shane would ever be fully comfortable with any real degree of pda in front of an audience (like maybe quick kisses/arm around shoulders in front of very trusted people, but that's it), but i'm extremely endeared imagining him picking up ilya's face pats and that being Their Thing for affection if anyone is watching.
like it's JUST plausibly bro enough that it doesn't get read as anything to freak out about, but it also is very funny to see happen.
i just KNOW there's compilations of ilya and shane just like. gently slapping each other on the face on the ice or when passing each other at an event.
and from the outside it's just them being a little annoying to each other (which is sweet in its own way), but for the two of them it's basically a kiss to the cheek. just a "hey you" "hey you" exchange.
There will, however, be a liplock on the ice when Shane and Ilya finally win the Stanley Cup together. Shane’s strict rules about PDA will temporarily go out the window for a few celebratory minutes.
And of course, that one piece of PDA will end up all over the internet and on every news site. The Hockey Husbands celebrating their first championship together, with Shane forever immortalized slipping his captain/husband a little tongue. Before he remembers they’re in public.
Even though at all other times, there’s very minimal PDA between them, that photo is never forgotten. It becomes almost as iconic as the 2017 Stanley Cup kiss between Scott Hunter and Kip Grady. Even though every single other photo of Shane and Ilya on the ice shows minimal PDA. Little face slaps rather than kisses.
