I've seen a lot of people saying "they are grown men". I mean ... not really lol. 20 years isn't the peak of maturity, especially for privileged white boys. At most, they vaguely brushed some issues.

Also yeah, they are used to blend in and get along with whoever they need to. Hockey is their workplace and an obsession they litteraly blow their bodies for. Do we really think they will make bold moves like saying "Marleau's were sh**, really horrible values". I mean what form do we think it's supposed to take ? Statements will come from others actions : fundraiser they are doing, pride tape or not, etc. Or from what they don't do (like not laugh at mysogynic jokes ...)

Last point, the "all hockey players have horrible values" don't make us go anywhere. Again oversimplification will put Brady Tkachuck at the same level of Wenny. So what does it means, should we give them the same credit ? Support them the same ? How will this give a good direction to anything ?

I’ve been a hockey fan my entire life and played right up until college. My young brother plays for ND now- totally agree with your post and I feel like a lot of people are being willfully ignorant or don’t have first-hand experience dealing with hockey players/ family/ friends in that world irl. There’s a lot of nuance with these guys and it literally runs like a cult which is why it’s not uncommon for them to have super “conflicting”’moral codes by normal people standards. Like yes we need to have tough convos but it’s 99% gray area. Those kids are brainwashed by the time they’re 18. Some of these kids will literally be the sweetest people you’ll ever meet in your life and have genuine rocks for brains. Full-stop

this is the most accurate ask I've gotten today. there's been so many times with that guy in particular where ive been disappointed and then been hopeful, and then been disappointed again. it's very confusing trying to figure out where they stand and i don't think 1 thing should be a definer. again, not defending, just thinking critically.
