feeling fomo so i wanna add my two cents, strap in this is gonna be a little longer, this is my favourite narry for me
i think mack started crushing first, maybe during the all american prospect tournament, or the steel, definitely before BU, but at this point he had no concept for crushing on a boy so he just thought he REALLY hated this pretty blonde american boy with these pretty blue eyes and bunny teeth
meanwhile i think will was way too wrapped up in his ever evolving harem, and later the NTDP torture chamber to take notice of mack who was over a year younger than him.
(now, i'm very torn between slut smith hockey and will smith virgin, they're both great narry paths to go down, it's either/or and nothing in between, either will fucked around with every DL man in the greater boston area or he's deeply repressed and uses his Catholicism as a shield to not have to contemplate his homosexual tendecies)
once we get to college will starts paying a bit more attention, mack shows up at his rival college with fixed teeth, and those deadly green eyes, and is as feral as ever and everybody's talking about how he'll probably go 1oa and as the season goes on and the sharks keep loosing there's a decent chance he could end up drafted to the same team
will gets a little cocky and starts showing off, the dick trick game happens, he's sooooo smug about it and mack's brain melts a little cause that was so frustrating why is he so horny now??
the lottery happens, the BC line are all huddled in some hotel room in europe at worlds watching mack in his all black suit getting interviewed in NYC and will pulls out his phone and sends him a DM
they exchange maybe a handful of DMs before the draft, not much, but enough that any left over animosity melts away and there's this curiosity about eachother bubbling up
the draft happens, and we're off the dev camp, where of course, they're put in a hotel room together and it's such an instant connection it kind of shocks them both a little, mack because he's never had a friend that's been so lcoked in on him, and will because he's never met somebody that matches his hockey freak at this level (let us not forget that will is just as insane about hockey as mack is, he just hides it better)
now for the entire first season they stay in this limbo of having crushes on eachother but also being in denial about it/oblivious to it, maybe they do some things that are decidedly not platonic, maybe there's even some brojobs but they don't talk about it, it's just bro stuff, mack is just ditching the ig models he flies in to hang out with will until he doesn't bother flying them in anymore, that doesn't mean anything
the offseason comes and they go their seperate ways, and maybe they notice how much more they miss eachother than they have ever missed anybody else, mack gets jealous of will's harem and plays his ig games after will posts his summer dump by matching his profile pic while stalking every hockey bro will tagged in his summer dump in the middle of the night in croatia and later on chooses a matching song for his own summer dump
mack can't bear the seperation anymore, so when the halifax invite comes he moves heaven and earth to get will an invite too, because obviously will couldn't possibly turn down an invite to go train with sidcros and natemac, so they go to halifax and things just get more intense, and they're sooooooo happy to see eachother, but they still don't talk about it
the season starts with that go awful loosing streak, will at this point perhaps a little aware of his feelings, booked them a reservation at carbone the day the game plan released, is taking mack out to what is essentially a whole ass date day out in NYC before their loosing streak breaking game against the rangers where mack scores a hatty and will the OT game winner, if they haven't hooked up until this point i think this is where they start hooking up, but they STILL don't talk about it
the season goes on, they become more and more attached at the hip, and then the pens game happens. and i think this was the big OH moment at least for mack. while he was sitting in that penalty box after completely loosing it on wotherspoon mack was realising a whole bunch of things, speedrunning his sexuality crisis if he hasn't already, and when he saw the clips of the fight will was as well
now they both know and maybe they try to talk about it but they're not quite ready yet to have the full open and honest conversation that they need to so while will is on IR they're a little all over the place, figuring shit out
then the olympic break comes along and because of the time zone and maybe some diffculties in figuring out what they mean to eachother they don't talk as much as they'd like to at first, but they quickly start talking more and more because they realise just how much they miss eachother now and at the end it's will who talks him off the inconsolable ledge after the final game
so after the olympics they become something, and it's new and it's messy and they're in their honeymoon period, this is where the salt ritual goes absolutely bonkers, and they probbaly still don't communicate as much as they should but they're something to eachother and they know it and that's more than they ever thought they'd have
the rest of the season finished and they're off to boston for marmon, teh first couple of days everything is fine but the more will ditches mack to hang out with the BC crowd, and doesn't invite mack to that one family lunch that GABE gets to attend, the more mack feels unwanted, and while they had both talked about skipping worlds, after being offered the captaincy and feeling out of place in boston mack agrees to go to worlds and fucks off to van to start training, and will who hadn't even realised he fell into old patters and that maybe integrating mack into his boston life was a little harder than he expected it to be is hurt by that, and thus starts the summer of miscommunication and divorce, while they're both stewing over easily resolvable conflict but they just won't communicate
fast forward to will making a very last minute decision to go to van to see mack, brings his emotional support blanked matty b with him just in case mack isn't happy to see him whom he immediately ditches the moment him and mack are good and back to normal, they make plans to spend the rest of the summer together and are finally looking at houses in san jose together
