i wish i could find a compassionate way to say that adulthood isn't about putting away childish things or giving up the things that make you happy or magically being able to do all these things you need to without anxiety. it's about understanding that the choices you make are something that a future version of you will have to contend with, that even the smallest gains today will add up over time, that the crushing weight of a hundred tasks you don't want to do but have to do can be made that much less crushing by taking genuine joy in small things and that to acknowledge any of this will not mean an end to the life you want to live.
