Just because you could tolerate discomfort doesnât mean you should. Resist the urge to deny yourself your basic needs because you think you are undeserving of anything good. You donât need to love yourself to know that you are no different from other people and that you should have the same level of comfort as they have in their lives. You donât have to earn anything. Even if you feel undeserving, give yourself what you need, even if itâs hard going against the anxiety that tells you to deprive yourself. Because the more you neglect yourself, the more your needs get bigger, the more your anxiety grows. Even if you fulfill one small need today, or if you canât fulfill any of them, know I am proud of you for still trying, for still being here and know that I believe you are deserving of good things. We are all human, and we are all equally deserving of happiness and comfort, and that can be a hard thing to learn as we overcome our feeling of worthlessness. Even if you donât believe you are worthy, I do believe you are, and Iâm cheering for you.
itâs nov 5 and new johnlock just dropped babes
Temperatures are starting to drop in a lot of places so here's a reminder that you should never plug space heaters into power strips. Space heaters require a higher wattage than power strips can handle, which can result in the strip overheating and catching fire.
Don't put space heaters around clutter either and don't run them when you're asleep or out of the room. Make sure all your smoke detectors are working.
A cold house is awful, especially when space heaters are your only form of heating, but you know what's worse? Your house getting burned down.

outsiders and boring normal people and fandom newbies always think that buckwild kinky porn fanfiction is the strangest fandom hobby but they are wrong.
the strangest fandom hobby is plotty fanfiction, the kind that requires research, because engaging in this hobby makes no goddamned sense.
it doesnât even give anybody masturbation material, which is at least a logical and admirable goal that contributes to the betterment of society, or at least societyâs solitary orgasms.
in other news i hope the cia spyware monitoring my internet usage understands that iâm googling information about smuggling drugs in thailand because i want the details to be right in a single paragraph in a 10,000 word story about a gay mafia guys.
this post has been making the rounds again and i just want to state for the record that it is a fucking delight to read in the tags all the random things people research for their fanfic and art. fandom, i love you. i love you with your flood maps and medical procedures and tentacle biology and historical fashion and traditional handcrafts and conlangs and urban geography and literally everything else. i am completely sincere about this. the enthusiasm with which people embrace detailed, deep, and often obscure research, just because they want to get it right, because they want to create something rich and interesting, it makes me feel better about the world. i adore it.
Iâm know Iâm not the first person to say this, but any newbies on tumblr really need to understand how different this is from a lot of other social media. Particularly tiktok.
I just saw a creator on tiktok reminding followers that itâs actually a problem when someone goes back to the earliest post and watches all the posts chronologically, liking and commenting along the way. The stupid app recognizes it as spam or something and then kinda puts a halt on their account? Literally punishing people for positive engagement?? đĽ´đ¤Śââď¸
Iâve already heard people saying years back how they donât want to be âcreepyâ and go through a persons blog, liking and reblogging tons of stuff. But think how many more people are going to be worried about it now, thinking they might do actual damage! Most people, especially younger people, are so used to the way tiktok works now. So please, do not ever worry about this on here. Just remember-
You will never do any harm if you go on a like and reblog fest through someoneâs tumblr blog! The only risk youâre taking is to make the blog owner weep for joy!! đđ¤Ł
This website literally passes around posts that are so old, the newest comments are celebrating things like âHappy 10th anniversary to this post!â sometimes.
The worst that usually happens is a creator going âwait, what, HOW did you find that 7 year old post that had no tags buried in the depths of my blog?â, very few people actually get mad about it (and from what Iâve seen, the people who do are all entirely immigrants from socmed sites like TT where they have entirely different cultures about it.)
Tumblr itself is based around longevity in many ways. So, just have at it. Have fun. If you like that post 12,000 pages deep on my blog, GO FOR IT. Thatâs what this website is all about
This.
Iâm gonna give one caveat to this and that is I know I was damn stupid in the past and you might find evidence of that. If you can see or figure out time stamps, make sure a post is recent before you get angry at any one because chances are they mightâve grown as people over the years and already realized they were dumb.
Flautist Melissa Jefferson plays slaver James Madison's 200-year-old crystal flute in the Library of Congress.
a few notes: --this is apparently a piece that is very difficult to play --this flute is keyless, which requires the player to use extremely precise finger positioning --Lizzo is wearing two inch acrylic nails
the runs at the end are both stunning and flawless!
Cool. The flute is cool. But I got some more info that I feel is important.
That's James Maddison's flute. James Maddison owned over 100 slaves. Due to debts he had to sell land and slaves over his lifetime. By the time of his death he owned 36 slaves. No slaves were freed during his lifetime or in his will.
The power that this successful Black woman has over his legacy right now.
Not just playing his flute, but shaking her ass while playing his flute.
With some help from the Library of Congress, @lizzo got to play President James Madison's crystal flute at her recent Washington, D.C., conc
Oh, the white supremacists are so mad.
You know how often people play instruments that are hundreds of years old? Instruments are made to last hundreds of years. They're preserved through use. First chair violinists in major orchestras often use violins that are centuries old.
My aunt owns and sells instruments both young and old, and it's a huge dishonor to the memory of the creator to demand that the instrument go in a museum never to be used.

Something really cool about this video is that Lizzo is usually in really extravagant outfits, which is awesome to see! But we as fat people are expected to over-perform gender and be dressed to the nines just to deserve basic respect. If we're seen wearing baggy pants and a simple shirt, we're called slovenly, lazy, ugly. So I love seeing Lizzo being able to wear not just the extravagant outfits but also outfits like this that are a "fuck you" to every fatphobe who thinks fat people must put on a performance to earn basic respect and dignity.
Not only is Lizzo playing James Madisonâs crystal flute, she was invited to by Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress and the first actual librarian to have the job since 1974 (she was appointed in 2016). She is also the first woman and the first African American to be the Librarian of Congress.
She invited Lizzo by @ her on Twitter because she saw Lizzo would be in town for her tour. Lizzo spent three hours touring the LoC and looking at historic flutes in the collection.
Carla Hayden was previously the head librarian of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, which is the city library organization for Baltimore. She kept the libraries open during the Freddie Gray riots so people would have a safe place to bring their kids.
Sheâs a cool lady and I hope more people get interested in the LoC and itâs holdings. They have a lot online and you donât need to make an account to look.
I am learning to imagine the future:
My sycamore tree began life in the gravel at the edge of a parking lot. If trees can feel pain, that is a painful, unlucky death. I carefully dug it up and put it in a pot I made out of a disposable cup.
Hello small one. This world may be cruel, but I will not be.
I decided to take care of it, not expecting it to survive, and when my sycamore tree unfurled one tiny leaf and then another, it chiseled a tiny foothold in my terrified brain, the kind of brain that doesn't remember a world before the atomic bomb and before 9/11.
I googled the lifespans of trees. My neurons had to stretch and expand to accommodate what I learned: My sycamore tree may live five hundred years. It's hard to think something so big. In twenty years, my baby sycamore tree will be three stories tall, and the home of many creatures. In five years, my sycamore tree will be taller than I am. In one year, it will be summer.
There's this concept called sense of foreshortened future where people who have lived through trauma can't conceptualize a future for themselves because deep down they don't expect to survive, When I look forward, all I see is fire and death, melting ice and burning sky. We were raised Evangelical. All we see is Judgment Day, except there is no heaven.
But now there is a tiny gap in the wall, a crack in the door of my cell
and on the other side, I see a tree
There is, in the future, a great old sycamore tree, full of clean winds and the stir of a thousand wings. A hundred years from now. Fifty years from now. There will be forests in that world. There will be a world.
It takes courage, but we have to imagine it.
Most tree species can live in excess of three or four hundred years. I think I'm learning something. I think there are ancient voices saying hello small one, touch the dirt and the leaves, for now you are part of something that cannot die
in 2030 I will be thirty years old and the world will not have ended and there will still be hummingbirds, and we will have photos of the stars more beautiful than we can now imagine.
I planted an Eastern Redcedar; they may live nine hundred years. There will be nine hundred years. The people in that time will remember us. Maybe we will meet the aliens (hi aliens!).
I will blow out the candles on many birthday cakes in a world where there are wolves in dark forests far from home. I am learning to imagine the future. I learned recently that elk were reintroduced to the Appalachian Mountains after over a hundred years of extirpation, and that they are expanding their range.
That tiny crack I can see through now opens a tiny bit more:
Maybe elk will pass through my hometown, maybe there will be a forest where the pasture is on the high hill that I can see from my home
say it, say it, say it: ten years, thirty years, a hundred years from now
I am learning to imagine the future. There is a crack in the wall of this prison, of this machine, of this darkness, and through it, I see a tree.
I love it when ideas serve people and solve problems

I wonder if work just.. got harder in the 2000s, comparatively.
So like... ok. I haven't researched this and I'm mostly thinking out loud, so forgive me.
I entered the working world in 2005. I had a few odd jobs for a few years and then finally just bit the bullet in 2009, got a job at a grocery storeas an inventory clerk. My job was to count surplus items in the backroom and update the counts. Additional responsibilities included helping stock the front end. I left that job in less than a year.
A friend of mine now works at the same chain, different location, same job title, in 2022. But where I shared that title with two other people, he's the only one with that job title. Additionally, there are less stockpersons, and he is often called out to the floor to help them, which impedes his primary job function. He is also expected to clean bathrooms and some other maintenance things that I cant imagine doing as an inventory clerk.
And I thought maybe it was just that his location is understaffed, but looking back on the past few years where I was expected to do everything (be the front end, the dispatcher, the manufacturer, the teacher, trainer, janitor, delivery driver, account handler... christ, how did I do all this?) I'm looking at the issue with fresh eyes.
I hear sometimes about the 'slim down,' where a lot of companies took on a trend of hiring less people than they need to cut down on the cost of labor, and I look at how fast a person can burn out at a job. And how many jobs are considered 'high pressure sales' when they dont need to be.
Like I'm looking at the possibility of starting a business and I'm looking at the jobs I've had that burned me out and why. And it's almost always been 'I was always juggling responsibilities because we needed more staff'.
Like it seemed like I was doing everything, but getting paid the same.
And I think about that backroom job, where occasionally i would have to help out the stockers on big days, but mostly my job was one function.
It's not like that anymore, is it?
So when I hear someone bemoan that 'no one wants to work anymore' I just think... y'know, work ain't what it used to be. When you're working the work of 3.5 people because someone at corporate decided it was right and good to hire less people than they need because it saves them 20$ per hour per store, but you still dint get your bonus because shrinks too high or they didnt make the amount of money they thought they would or you gave too many coupons ONCE. And it's like they're actively trying to chase people away, and then threaten you with automation but they do t make work attractive enough for people to show...
Work dont want no one anymore.
Oh damn, the notes on this. Apparently it's not my imagination and y'all have lived some horror stories.
I feel like we should be able to do something about this. Like we should be able to say 'no' to lean staffing and we should have a say in what our responsibilities are.
I'm thinking about all the times i should have just straight up said something. Like I think I had it in my head that if I took on all the responsibilities in the shop, eventually I would be rewarded with higher pay. But it doesnt work like that anymore. The reward for digging the best hole is a bigger shovel.
That's no way to live, though. And I just put up with it like it was normal to be so tired at the end of the day that I couldnt move. Maybe I should have just said 'no, you do it' when they started making me work outside my title.
Because that took a serious toll on my mental health.
i know so many people have said it but
UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONSUNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONSUNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONSUNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONSUNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONSUNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS UNIONS
I HAVE A UNION JOB AND LET ME TELL YOU SOME THINGS
It is part time, contract, hourly, full remote. Because it's union? They have to offer me a minimum of 25 hours a week. If I *voluntarily* go under, that is on me, but they ALWAYS offer me up to that. If I ask for the hours, they HAVE to give them.
Overtime doesn't trigger until 40 hrs/wk... but any time spent on emails, spreadsheets, my timesheet, ANY admin task that's more than 15 min? I can bill for that. ALL training, meetings, etc? I bill for that.
I get holiday pay. Seperate from vacation, sick leave, personal time; if it's a federal or state holiday I *automatically* get 5 hours of pay for that day. Period. Unlimited. I got paid 5 hours to do nothing on MLK day and presidents day, no questions asked, nothing taken away from my other pay.
I get sick leave, vacation leave, "personal" leave (anything that isn't the former two -- like, "my friend had an accident and I need to drive them home"). I get health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance. I get access to the credit union. I get access to job search help if my position gets dissolved / I get laid off!
It costs about $80/month in union dues, but I MORE than get that back in terms of benefits and peace of mind, and it's automatically deducted from my paycheck.

whenever i see a noir detective in the rain iâm like yeah man⌠thatâs exactly where youâre supposed to be
Noir detectives are actually meant to be stressed, itâs their natural state. A Noir detective with nothing to be stressed about, will quickly revert to a more highly stressed state than normal.
Noir detectives require stress to be healthy, thatâs why itâs a good idea to make sure that an Inside Detective has access to regular difficult and alarming cases to solve and also a shower they can stand in (fully clothed or not) to agonize, since they canât go out in the rain. Donât be alarmed if they bang their little fists on the tile and howl, thatâs a normal part of the display. If they sit on the floor and cry, though, they may be overstimulated and need some hard alcohol and a nap to help them settle down.Â
It can be difficult, but if you have a friend with a Femme Fatale, arranging a (supervised) playdate can be enriching to both of them.
steadily recognizing that iâm allowed to exist in public spaces and not feel embarrassed about it⌠can you believe i used to feel weird about/too inadequate to sit on a bench in a public space. itâs ok. youâre allowed to be. just be. just sit on a bench. itâs ok
The trick to getting to this point is to just think of yourself as an extra in a movie.
I used to be so self conscious about existing in public but Iâve slowly realized that if I just saw some random fat guy in the background of a movie I probably wouldnât even think about him.
This is why Iâve come to describing myself as just some guy. Iâm just some guy! Nobody gets mad at just some guy for reading a nutrition label in the grocery store. Heâs just some dude. Heâs a part of The Public. The Masses. The Customers. Thatâs what this place was made for!
Oh good Iâm going to get a good grade in Being a NPC, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve
Cats understand "naughty". In fact I think they're the only animal who understands it. Dogs know "good" and "bad" but not Naughty. Same with theft. Cats know what theft is. They know when they are thieving and you can see it on their faces. Squirrels are thieves but they don't know that. They know "take" and "have" but they don't comprehend what it is to steal. Nor do raccoons or coyotes or any species of rodent. They may participate in theft but they are ignorant of the weight of what they do, the full meaning of it. Cats know what crime is and they do it on purpose.

âtrans men donât experience misogyny because theyâre men thus cannot experience womenâs oppressionâ
I hate to tell you this but even cis men experience misogyny if they step a toe over the line of what our incredibly sexist society sees as âproperâ for a man. You really donât think that a man with interests or expression the world sees as âfemaleâ arenât treated with violence?
âwould you say that of other privileged groups? do you think white people experience racism?â
I mean sometimes they do yeah. I know a white guy with monolid eyes and zero known Asian ancestors and he absolutely experiences anti-Asian racism on a fairly regular basis because people think heâs mixed Asian/white. I know a woman who was told throughout her life that she was Native as an adoptee with no known history or background who experienced incredibly violent amounts of anti-Native racism until she discovered as an adult through DNA test that she is 100% white. I know white people who tan incredibly dark in the summer comparatively that are constantly accused of being mixed race and experiencing racism due to that, usually anti-Mexican racism perpetrated against white people with Greek or Italian ancestors.
Their ability to make it stop by saying âhey, Iâm white actuallyâ only goes as far as the person enacting violence on them is willing to believe them. They still have to live with the trauma and physical scars from the altercations. We live in a racist world and thus there will be violent people who force all others to pass a whiteness test and eliminating or harming the rest.
Got an ask that I just block/deleted but it was basically âso you think cis people experience transphobia!?!?!?!?â and uh
If you think cis butches donât experience both transphobia and misogyny and homophobia for daring to be women who break gender roles while still holding onto their womanhood youâve sorely misunderstood just how bad butches have it in this world sorry. If you donât think cis queens experience transphobia and homophobia and misogyny for daring to be men who break gender roles while being loud and proud about it and still holding onto their manhood then youâve sorely mistaken just how bad they have it in this world as well.
Not to mention all of the cis men who wear dresses and skirts and makeup and nail polish and heels simply because they like them who experience all of these things. All of the cis straight women who simply just exist but something about them doesnât pass societyâs âwoman enoughâ test, leading to them being caught in bathroom bills and sporting rules and being attacked by people who mistake them for being transgender or gay.
Just like how straight people experience homophobia to such a degree that they literally beat their children out of any potential deviance from rigidly upheld gender roles and let politicians make jokes on national TV about how theyâd drown their pre-teen kids if they came out as LGBT. Do you really think a straight kid still figuring themselves out hears that and doesnât internalize that homophobia? Doesnât rigidly hold themselves to some impossible standard so that no one could ever possibly think theyâre gay? You donât think straight teenage boys who maybe donât pass some bullyâs straightness test are getting the shit kicked out of them for âbeing gayâ when, surprise, they arenât? You donât think all those kids being attacked by their priests and coaches and teachers are being told âthis wouldnât have happened if you werenât gayâ when theyâre literally not gay? Do you know how many straight kids had close calls at my school that famously expels all gay kids, because someone made up a believable enough rumor? Do you know how many of them still got their shit kicked in even though administration ultimately decided to let them stay?
All bigotry is violent and all bigotry catches people it doesnât âintendâ to and hurts them as well. It doesnât matter what someoneâs label is, or if they even have one. It matters if the person enacting the violence is doing it because their victim didnât pass whatever âacceptable enoughâ test they didnât know they were being subjected to.
Everyone is at risk. Oppression doesnât care what your label is. Some people are more visible targets than others, and as a result those people are the more common targets. That doesnât mean no one else experiences it.
