Gavin found himself attending the station's Christmas party thanks to his tin can of a partner. He wasn't sure why he even decided to come to the party when he could never truly get into the Christmas spirit. It was not his idea of a good time.
When he arrived at the party, Connor was the one to greet him at the door. He rolled his eyes, "enough with the formalities plastic prick. I'm only here because my partner demanded I be at the party."
"Carson is right this way." Connor led the detective back to his RK900 partner.
Gavin winked at some of the "babes" he saw along the way, wondering if this type of party would really be the place to pick up a date. He was already miserable and he hadn't even been there for more than five minutes.
When they finally made it to Carson the tall, gray-eyed figure turned to Gavin, "you made it."
"Of course I made it. You didn't think I would let you experience your first Christmas without a fight did you?" Gavin asked.
Carson's ice-cold gray eyes zoned in on his own eyes, "A fight is not what I am looking for. I assumed that spending time at a party such as this would lighten the mood that you have been in for the past couple weeks."
Gavin had a rough few weeks leading up to Christmas as a few cases turned cold and another one went sideways. He thought to himself, 'what a prick. I can take care of myself.' Before he could say anything, an announcement was being made.
"Let the gift-giving commence everyone." Called Fowler from the front of the room. When he finished his announcement, he headed over to a tree that had been put up a month prior to the day.
"Nines. Why am I here?" Gavin looked back to Carson.
The android gave the smallest glimpse of a smile and said, "to explore Christmas traditions that I may not have knowledge of."
One of Gavin's female coworkers spoke up, "there are plenty of traditions. I'm surprised you haven't heard any, but I guess it only makes sense seeing as Gavin is your partner."
Carson looked to her, "Gavin does not celebrate it throughout the month as everyone else does."
"I don't need to. We become plenty busier around this time of year to even worry about Christmas traditions." Gavin complained.
She shook her head, "that is your loss then I suppose."
"Yeah, yeah. Nines, you better explain to me why I should stay any longer." Gavin looked to his partner.
Carson nodded to him, "you see. There are different traditions the have piqued my interest in recent days. I noticed them decorating the halls with...balls of holly yes?"
"Mhm. That is how the song goes." Gavin rolled his eyes.
"And they light the Christmas tree as a group to signify having fun together. Yet, I still have yet to know what that decoration hanging in the doorway to the briefing room is." Carson pointed towards a mistletoe with curiosity.
The female giggled and said, "Carson. That is a mistletoe. People who are underneath the mistletoe are supposed to kiss. Or that is the tradition they claim it to be."
Carson stared at Gavin through her explanation and when she finished he motioned with his arm, "shall we have a look at this tradition?"
At this point, Gavin knew full well what the android was trying to do, "I don't care about tradition, you try and get me to kiss you under the mistletoe and I will punch you."
"Would you prefer somewhere else detective?" Carson planned to follow up on his idea.
"Excuse me?" Gavin was shocked that Carson would even suggest something so bluntly in public. Up until now, their relationship was nonexistent as they tried to hide their feelings from one another.
Carson smirked, "you heard me, detective."
