I think part of getting better is complete ego death. Like youβre not above setting a timer for 5 minutes and focusing on a task. Youβre not above doing a very simple 3 minute workout to start. Youβre not above reading for 10 minutes a day when you first get out of your reading slump, even if you used to read for hours. Youβre not above starting slow and then building up to where you want to be/where you once were. What you are above is total inertia. Doing something really is better than doing nothing. Radically accept where you are, radically accept your limits, and go from there. Donβt let your ego get in the way.
The Hanahaki story is going well. It's too little Hanahaki, though, so I will have to add more scenes inbetween. Luckily, I am in the flow, so I can hopefully finish this story some time this week. No promises there as I still need to translate, and edit it after it's done. Kaito is going through it.
This might take a little longer, after all. I really thought I would get there this time. The distraction got to me. It was faster. It doesn't matter too much, though. There is no dead-line.
I wish I felt like a person, but I don't even know what a person is supposed to be. I probably am a person, but I don't feel like it. Realistically speaking I am a human and a person per definition. It simply does not feel like it for reasons unknown. I don't even feel like I am real most of the time. Like I have been ripped from somewhere and glued between the pages of a world I do not belong in. It is weird. I rarely ever feel like I am really here. Even using my senses such as touch often feel disconnected. I feel the touch, but also only in a distant way somehow.

Kaito did it again. He proclaimed his love for Shinichi, and how happy he is to have met him. He didn't think he could ever let the mask go again, but with Shinichi he feels freer than he has in a long while, but he totally isn't in love or anything, right? Such a dumbass.
It could be platonic. It would be interesting to tell of a story where the platonic love is just as strong as the romantic one (in my opinion a good romantic love also needs some platonic feelings to it, and generally speaking platonic love is just as important as romantic one), but that still is not enough to cure the hanahaki because the love is different. Kaito doesn't love Shinichi less than Shinichi does him. It's just different.
In this story that is not the case for they are both in love with each other. They are simply being dumb about it, and I have long given up on wrangling Kaito into the confines of the story. It could still be interesting, though...
So in every version of post-Black Org Detective Conan when Conan is Shinichi again, I see the Detective Boys kind of moved to the side as he goes back to hisΒ βreal lifeβ. The better versions have him visit and serve as a mentor but thatβs not enough for me. Shinichi went through some shit with those kids and is forever bonded with them. That boy has not only taken it upon himself to be their third parent but genuinely likes them.
When Shinichi is big again, I want him to gather his kids together and be likeΒ βhey guys, I was actually Conan the whole time due to some weird drug so I wonβt be in class anymore but weβre still best friends but its gotta be a secret.β He knows those kids, he trusts them to keep quiet. And so life continues on but Shinichi carves out time to be with his elementary school friends. He continues to teach them the art of detection, solves cases with them sometimes (still doing his best to shield them as best he can) and just generally hang out.Β
People see him with a gaggle of second graders likeΒ β:/ dude sorry you have have to babysitβ and Shinichiβs likeΒ βbitch I am having the time of my life hanging with my buds. They pulled me out of a cave when I had a bullet in my gut, what have you done for me lately, you scalloped potato? Now if youβll excuse us, weβre marathoning Kamen Yaiba.β And all of them put on their matching Gucci sunglasses and peace out.
One of my favorite things about Detective Conan is how his experiences as Conan develop Shinichiβs character. Apart from Ran, he didnβt have friends as a teenager, he was arrogant and trying too hard to be mature and a bit of a gloryhound and insensitive. The Shounen Tantei were a major part of that changing, and Shinichi notably is honest in his personality with them as friends instead of playing a role. They might turn to Conan for answers to riddles more, but in the same way they turn to Mitsuhiko for facts on anything he is interested in or Ayumi for observations and final decisions, like they are peers with specialties and not like Conan is different or better, and Shinichi as Conan accepts them and comfortable helping them work things out or explain patiently instead of needing to show off. I absolutely see their relationship with Big Conan post-Black Org being exactly the same, forgetting his size, and even Shinichi oblivious to anyone looking sideways at the five-way discussion of such varying age groups because he is used to being himself with them. And heβs matured enough to not be afraid to admit he likes the Gomera movies and isnβt too cool to be excited about his favorite sport.Β
A vision was aquired. It was brought to you by me questioning, if Kaito would still buy/grow (because he would grow his own flowers to ensure the quality) flowers, if he were to be the one to have Hanahaki. If he would, they either coincidentily are the same kind (unlikely), he'd rebrand a little, or he'd use both. It also depends on what conditions they are in as well as on on the exact tricks he needs them for, and what amount is needed.
In any case, the vision was him carefully cleaning the flowers to gift the person (Shinichi) he loves. He cleans them with so much care. Not just to get rid of the blood, but also because they are the literal proof of his love. It hurts, but also he loves someone enough for his body to grow flowers. It is beautiful in a tragic way.

And Kaito continues to mess up. He for some reason decided to make a show out of it when he was asked who he was in love with. Instead of just saying that he doesn't love anyone romantically, which he was supposed to do, he went on a spiel of how he fell for Shinichi with descriptions of what he loves about Shinichi where Shinichi can hear it. Tehe, just kidding. He doesn't love anyone romantically!
Kaito, you can't do that. Shinichi is actively dying. What is wrong with you. He doesn't know, of course, but Kaito. He keeps taking away the script only to discard it. He laughs over the ashes of the burning script he set aflame.
I'm writing a KaiShin fanfiction where Kaito and Shinichi are classmates, and Kaito for some reason sits on Shinichi's table despite them also being seat-neighbors when I got hit by the visual of Shinichi dropping his head on Kaito's lap to nap. This silences Kaito who was in the middle of telling a tale. Kaito looks surprised at Shinichi. His eyes soften, and then he pats Shinichi's hair while continuing his story with a lowered voice to not disturb him. They are not dating yet.
I probably won't do anything with this. Probably. Maybe. Not in this story, at least. Mayhaps a small comic can be drawn. I don't know yet.

Zelos and Genis. Not only does their extremely disparate maturity levels make this feel kind of Bad, personally, I just. Do not see a world in which they ever have more in common than liking Lloyd and Colette. While Zelos is probably self-destructive enough to enter a relationship that's not good for him (see below) even if he knows it's bad, I just don't see Genis wanting a relationship, ever, with someone he doesn't like, and Genis will never like Zelos. Accept, sure. Acknowledge, maybe eventually. But not like.
BROTP
This was really hard XD it was rough picking between the characters Zelos has potentially fascinating interactions with...but I think I'll pick Colette. Chosen4Chosen platonic angst and maybe, hopefully, a little bit learning how to be human together.
OTP
Lloyd, obviously.
Second choice pairing
Hm, I think this is almost more basic than the OTP choice, but I actually quite enjoy Sheena and Zelos as a pairing, too. Specifically only if they're a little fucked up, though. Like Sheena has contributed to Zelos's spiraling self-worth, and Zelos has dismissed and belittled Sheena with casual misogyny, and their whole friendship has been rife with distrust. But, despite that, they know each other pretty well--in a universe where they finally were honest about how they were both hurting, I think there's a path to reconciliation that could easily become both compelling and romantic.
Fluffy pairing
I mean...Zelloyd? Lol. Zelos is a very angsty character, so the only way I think to get a fluffy pairing out of him is to put him with a very upbeat character, and our upbeat characters in ToS who have enough chemistry with him to be interesting are...Sheena (see above), Colette (Chosen/Chosen could never be fluffy lmao I'm sorry), Genis (who would not be fluffy with Zelos), and Lloyd. You see my dilemma. I'm cheating and saying Zelloyd again.
Angsty pairing
Zelos is like an instant angst flavor packet lmao there's too many choices. Okay, in seriousness, while I acknowledge the angst potential of the Chosens and also of something like Zelos/Mithos or Zelos/Regal (that one could arguably have a happy ending), I think my favorite angsty pairing is fairly basic. It's Zelos and Hilda. I think they could easily be forced into a public courtship or marriage, and they would both hate it, but while Hilda would be allowed to show her disdain, Zelos would hide it, and they would end up in an endless feedback loop of hatred and pettiness and resentment, all the while reinforcing the worst traits in each other. It would be toxic and destructive and the kind of thing that would probably lead to multiple tragic plays and epics.
Poly ship
While I do have a soft spot for Sheena/Zelos/Lloyd, I think my favorite poly ship is the one I like to call "The Adults are Talking," and it's Raine, Regal, and Zelos. I could very much see a situation where the three of them have a mutual and open FWB thing going on when the stress of what the rest of the Sylvarant Squad is up to gets to be too much that eventually leads to some genuine vulnerability and intimacy.
Weirdest pairing
I don't. Know. lol. There's too many weird fucking characters in ToS, so no matter what answer I choose here, I feel like there's a weirder option out there somewhere. If I'm sticking to relatively major characters and ignoring the sequel, then... (oh boy this is going to get me cancelled) I did once have a Thought that went something along the lines of Zelos and Presea. Not necessarily romantically, but two people who both have a very complicated relationship with the idea of sex for very different reasons maybe exploring how they can maybe find peace with it. If we're including the sequel, I think Zelos and Decus would be just the campiest toxic yaoi to ever camp, and it would be funny, but also somehow wildly homophobic.
