YSST: Where are Kayura and the Masho?
Disclaimer: the opinions herein are my own. If they sound overly serious, theyâre probably not. At the end of the day Iâm enjoying YSST. That said, I have every intent of projecting a bit of friendly psychic damage your way.I do my best to present correct information. Any mistakes within are my own.
The following contains mild spoilers through Episode 14.
Hello again. You thought I was done for the day? Not while there is work to be done.
Many of us carrying over from YST have the same question: where are Kayura and the Three Stooges? Masho, Warlords, whatever you'd like to call them. At the end of the TV series we see them float away on beams of sunlight, with Kayura stating they'll turn the demon realm into a nicer place.
Cue Episode 14 and we have the surviving Braves talking about the demon realm being a "garbage dump."
Yeah, this place is a garbage dump, but nobody gets to call it that but us!
After their absence for the duration of Cour 1 plus this reflection on the demon realm being a not-so-nice place to live, one has to think that Kayura-tachi didn't accomplish their goal. And if they did, something pretty significant happened between then and now.
Now, for kicks and giggles I'd like to point out that YSST has already shown the Masho on screen. Via a flashback. Using stock footage from YST.
You know what this does? It acknowledges that these guys exist in the frame of YSST.
Now, perhaps their story is over and there's no more to tell. I'm telling you guys, they'll show up at the very end to put their hands on the Moon Wand together with everyone else and help Gai vanquish Queen--oh, pardon me.
Ahem. I truly am hedging my bets on some sort of acknowledgement later in Cour 2. All commentary about the pacing and exposition aside, to this point we've had visual acknowledgements of both Kaosu / The Ancient and also these chuckleheads. We haven't acknowledged Kayura on screen yet but there's no way we get to the end without that happening. We also need to figure out where Jun's shakujo / staff came from.
Anyhow, I'm pleased to announce that I've gained insight to where Kayura and company have been all this time. Say it with me everyone...
Hear me out. HEAR ME OUT. In Episode 14, Sagume drops the very unfortunate possibility of aliens existing in universe. I personally hope that isn't the case, I'm just pointing it out.
Now, think back to the end of YST Episode 39.
We thought that Kayura and her compadres ascended on a beam of sunlight, having returned to their human hearts.
Behold! 38 years later with the help of digital restoration, an unsanctioned ritual and a can of cola, I've solved the mystery of their disappearance.
See you next time.
Still here, somewhat. I'm still hoping that damn ai bubble bursts because I'm tired of having to protect my artwork
At this point I should just poison AI with Arago in a bikini because if I'm gonna have to break ai, I should break it with shitposts until ai eats itself
on the topic of Arago: I have drawn this dude somewhere around 30 or more times
obviously we know in our hearts that Jabba the Hutt is not a dragon. thatâs ridiculous.
But Is Jabba A Dragon Though?
he has the body plan of a lindworm. I suppose you could argue that he is too thick to be considered âserpentineâ, but he is longer than he is wide, and not entirely unlike an especially chunky gaboon viper. his upright posture distracts from the fact that heâs built like an abbreviated mole lizard, which are lindworms.
and then of course he acts like a dragon. I donât know if Star Wars uses gold or something else but whatever it is Iâm sure he hordes it. eats people sometimes. disturbing taste for princesses. knights come to kick his ass.
Is Jabba A Dragon?
Jabba the Hut isnât a dragon. He doesnât fly. Heâs more like a slug.
Ah, but he uses a hoversled, which is much like flying:
And not all creatures under the broad category of âdragonâ fly. Lindworms donât fly, neither do wyrms, drakes, sea serpents, or hydras. Lungs/Chinese dragons can fly but they donât use wings to do it. Jabba should not be disqualified as a dragon simply because he uses repulsor technology to achieve airborne locomotion.
Jabba is unlike a slug in so many ways. He has jointed limbs, a hard internal skeleton, a skull with fixed spherical eyeballs, and no sensory tentacles or pneumostome. He is capable of facultative parthenogenesis--like komodo dragons and other squamates--continuously growing larger and living for hundreds of years hoarding wealth and power and preying on princesses. His resemblance to a slug is superficial, though we may describe him as such in an insulting fashion... like how a dragon may be called a âwormâ.
Also he can and does eat people.
Jabba the Hutt is a dragon and I have convinced myself of this.
No he aint bro hes a fuckin alien. dragons have to originate from the planet earth hes from a galaxy far far away.
The dragons from both The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey and The Pit Dragon Trilogy by Jane Yolen are aliens from extraterrestrial planets called Pern and Austar IV, respectively.Â
Jabba the Hutt is a dragon.
I think you will find that Hutts lack a backbone, commonly known as a spine, which, for the most part, dragons have either litterially or figuratively.
Jabbaâs motions, limbs, and posture are clearly dependent upon the use of a hard interior support system. Lacking an exoskeleton and being unable to simply squelch out of Leiaâs chokehold suggests he is not simply moving around via the hydrolics of a muscular hydrostat. Besides, thereâs this art from the making of The Phantom Menace:
ship this is getting dangerously close to morphological taxonomy
do you want a plucked chicken swung at you? because this is how you get a plucked chicken swung at you.
âDragonâ is like âwormâ, in my opinion. Itâs not a taxonomy because the variety of creatures referred to as âwormsâ donât even belong to related phylums. A horsehair worm and a nightcrawler are not related but they share an innate âworminessâ. A velvet worm has many legs and is still counted as a worm-thing. Like Iâve said before, âwormâ isnât a taxonomy; itâs a lifestyle.
Dragons are the same way. Itâs an umbrella term, and while some irritating pedants insist that only a four-legged creature with words god can be considered a dragon, they only say that to make sure everyone in the room knows that they know what a wyvern is. Wyverns and lindworms and amphitheres are obviously all under the dragon umbrella.
If these things are dragons, then âdragonâ is as fluid a category as âwormâ:
Jabba has more stereotypical âdragon traitsâ than some dragons do. He doesnât hit every point, but a dragon is a worm is a dragon is a worm.
My general position is that the use of the word "dragon" to encompass all these disparate creatures is a bad thing and a relic of eurocentric colonialism. A Chinese Long is not the same thing as an English Dragon, nor is a wyvern or an amphithere, and calling them "dragons" belies the cultural differences in which these disparate creatures arose.
In terms of narrative purpose and lifestyle, Janba fills the role that a Dragon does in many stories, however. I would argue Jabba is a dragon in the same sense that a Tsuchigumo is.
I think enforcing a strict cultural differentiation would eliminate most dragons from fiction. Fiction, which supplies most modern dragons, does not stick to a strict historical consistency in dragon-depiction, either visually or behaviorally.
Take, for example, the dragons from The Last Airbender. Theyâre clearly dragons, as they breathe fire and have wings, but theyâre also more like elemental spirits that visually and behaviorally resemble lungs more than they resemble, say, Smaug. Do their similarities to lungs disqualify them from dragonhood?
Also, itâs not like the medieval Welsh concept of a âdragonâ evolved in a vacuum. There are mythical creatures from around the world that bear strong resemblances to That Specific Creature Which We Are Apparently Now Inisisting Is The Only True Dragon. Welsh and British folklore was surely being influenced by mythology from disparate cultures.Â
I am firmly against declaring wyverns ânot dragonsâ because even in British cultural history, the distinction only arose out of the technicalities of heraldry, not folklore or even art.Â
The only thing that Jabba lacks in terms of dragon qualifications: the innately obvious âdragony-nessâ that makes most people take one look and go âoh yeah thatâs a dragonâ. But i donât think that thatâs a REQUIREMENT of dragon-hood. Like, what the fuck is that thing down there?
That thing does not have innate dragony-ness to me. It looks like a turtle with tentacles.Â
But, while I think the answer to âcan we consider Jabba the Hutt to be a dragonâ is yes, no one has asked whether or not Jabba would consider himself to be a dragon.
thereâs a whole list on wookiepedia of dragons in star wars and it turns out thereâs a bunch of creatures that have âdragonâ in their name and they all have quite a lot of dragony-ness but also none of them seem to reach anything beyond semi-sentience. So maybe Jabba has enough dragon-y qualities to be considered a dragon, but he himself would be insulted if you called him one.
@glumshoe
iâm reading Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber and
heâs a fucking dragonÂ
@glumshoe
you make some good points and also I ABSOLUTELY HATE YOU FOR THIS
fine.
DRAGON LOCATED
i hate this i hate this i hate this
official dragon post
unfortunately
He's a slug.
To suggest he is a dragon is an insult to actual dragons, so I refuse to change my stance on that point.
And goddamn that book adding "draconic" is so misleading because the reader would think of an actual dragon but if they know what a Jabba is, the two simply conflict.
So no, I'm going to yeet everything in this debate and stick with what Leia and Han would have thought: Overgrown slug.
Which couple do you like more?
Dick Grayson and Koriand'r
Anna Marie (Rogue) and Remy LeBeau

I bring a sort of "actually mass traumatic events have an effect on the public's mental health and you're NOT acting in isolation from that trauma, and ignoring it doesn't make it go away" vibe to the party that Americans do not like
"IDK why [name] is acting up lately" "Well on top of the things going on in their personal life causing stress, we've also had nonstop pandemic on top of authoritarian threats and genocide and cost of living being unsustainable, so yeah, they're acting pretty much as expected" "NONE OF THAT OTHER STUFF IS IMPORTANT, only their PERSONAL problems, so they shouldn't be this upset!"
sorry but the background radiation of stress does, in fact, affect people
I've been playing FFXIV in preparation for the next Expac drop and I was finishing up a role quest from Endwalker that I hadn't done yet. Put briefly, the story of one of them involves going to Doma, a nation that had been under Garlean imperial occupation for years, had a good chunk of its population lost to the war where they were overrun, forced conscription by the occupiers, and in the war for their eventual liberation. You go back to their reconstruction project and you find out that because of all the trauma they had undergone, and the fact that they were unable to properly grieve all of it due to chaotic current events (the collapse of the Garlean Empire and the potential END OF THE WORLD), they were at risk of turning into monsters due to their emotional distress (one of those aforementioned End of The World symptoms). So in order to ensure the safety of the populace and aid in the process of moving forward in rebuilding their country, they declared a National Funeral, where as many people as possible were encouraged to contribute items to inter at their royal mausoleum.
This game said out loud, as mentioned above, that Mass Traumatic Events Do Have an Effect on the Public Mental Health, and that the inability to process those events is a failure to the citizens and the overall functionality of the community. If people aren't given access to rituals, community support, or other space to come to terms with their emotions, no matter how indirectly affected they might have been by the events, they run the risk of carrying that unprocessed trauma into the future and having it manifest in other unhealthy and destructive ways.
The videogame that came out in the middle of the Pandemic did a better job talking about the continuing process of dealing with trauma, from the personal through the national levels, than our own country's infrastructure and cultural attitudes.
I apologize if youâve been asked this question before Iâm sure you have, but how do you feel about AI in writing? One of my teachers was âwritingâ stories using ChatGPT then was bragging about how good they were (they were not good) and said he was going to sell them. To put aside any legal concerns in that, Iâm just trying to talk him down from that because, personally, I would not enjoy dream job being taken by AI.
The poor man.
Many magazines have closed their submission portals because people thought they could send in AI-written stories.
For years I would tell people who wanted to be writers that the only way to be a writer was to write your own stories because elves would not come in the night and do it for you.
With AI, drunk plagiaristic elves who cannot actually write and would not know an idea or a sentence if it bit their little elvish arses will actually turn up and write something unpublishable for you. This is not a good thing.
Genshin impact but ... cats!
Something that literally changed my life was working with a friend on a coding thing. He was helping me create an auto rig script and was trying to explain something to me but his words were just turning into static in my brain. I was tired and confused and there was so many new concepts happening.
I could feel myself working toward a crying meltdown and was getting preemptively ashamed of what was about to happen when he said, âHey, are you someone who benefits from breaks?â
It broke me.
Did I benefit from breaks? I didnât know. Iâd never taken them.
When a problem frustrated or upset me I just gritted my teeth and plowed through the emotional distress because eventually if you batter and flail at something long enough you figure it out. So what if you get bruised on the way.
I viscerally remembered in that moment being forced to sit at the table late into the night with my dad screaming at me, trying to understand math. I remembered taking that with me into adulthood and having breakdowns every week trying to understand coding. I could have taken a break? Would it help? I didnât know! Iâd never taken one!
âYes,â I told him. We paused our call. I ate lunch. I focused on other stuff for half an hour. I came back in a significantly better state of mind, and the thing heâd been trying to explain had been gently cooking in the back of my head and seemed easier to understand.
Now when I find myself gritting my teeth at problems I can hear his gentle voice asking if I benefit from breaks. Yes, dear god, yes why did I never get taught breaks? Why was the only way I knew to keep suffering until something worked?
I was relating to this same friend recently my roadtrip to the redwoods with my wife. âWe stopped every hour or so to get out and stretch our legs and switch drivers. It was really nice. When I was a kid weâd just drive twelve hours straight and not stop for anything, just gas. Weâd eat in the car and power through.â
He gave a wry smile, immediately connecting the mindset of my parents on a road trip to what theyâd instilled in me about brute forcing through discomfort. âDo you benefit from breaks?â he echoed, drawing my attention to it, making me smile with the same sad acknowledgement.
Take breaks. Youâre allowed. You donât have to slam into problems over and over and over, let yourself rest. It will get easier. Take. Breaks.
When I said I was gonna pull my old art from tumblr, completely forgetting how tumblr works.
It's probably already too late anyway. >_<

Still writing DMC fanfics! (Though had to end one fanfic preemptively since I lost interest in that particular storyline. The others are stalled at the moment. Flip of A Coin has semi-regular updates of "once a month" if it can be managed.) FFXIV fanfics: still ongoing! I have been working on one that's not yet published. Finished A Million of Journals, started posting Your Wish is Mine. Started YST fanfic-- one chapter isn't done yet, just barely started.

For people who asked me about the tumblr midjourney news, I had no idea that somehow people on tumblr weren't aware of this issue
Apparently it's bad enough that tumblr's own staff has started pulling their photographs from their own accounts.
This is the post where I got the news from:
Shit. This may be pure chance and coincidence, and it's not he is in a position to be able to talk about anything, but seeing prominent staf
I'm doing this out of sheer caution as ai art bullshit is making it feel like I can't share my art anymore. (Because it's bad enough that social media makes it so hard for people to see my art, the ai art is making me "expendable")
I am so sorry but I won't be posting art here again because tumblr is partnering with Midjourney and that means artist's works will be stolen again
So I will be removing all the old art posts. :(
Never thought I'd have to do a lot of research for my YST fanfic but well shit.
There's a lot of things I learned that I never knew about before because inaccessibility to translations.
I'm currently working on chapter two and had to try to struggle with some questions-- what career does Nasuti has? Message seems to suggest that she's involved with politics in some capacity?
Also! Shu's name... I was wondering why he was called Shu rather than Rei Fuan/Lei Fuan/Li Huang (Surprised me to find this spelling) -- I can only assume that Shu made it easier for people.

literally cannot believe "first ever live action omegaverse show" is not bigger news on tumblr
The live action omegaverse show about racecar drivers!
It's not just A/B/O, it's Isekai A/B/O.
My mistake, these are two different live-action Omegaverse shows.
Pit Babe is a Thai show about Omegaverse racecar drivers.
Couple Or Not is a Chinese show about a guy being Isekai'd into an Omegaverse parallel universe where he's mpreg with his Alpha rival's child.
WHAT
For years I would look at posts and questionnaires about neurodivergence that takes about being so focused on something that you forgot to eat and be like, "Couldn't be me. Being hungry is so uncomfortable! Your stomach is growling and cramping? How do you ignore that?"
Then someone informed me that neurotypical people have a whole bunch of "hungry" sensations before they get to that point.....
They what
Yeah, I don't get it either, but apparently this is a Whole Thing.... Like they somehow detect blood sugar dropping and go, "Ooh, time for lil snack!"
See also: there is a feeling of "oh, I need to pee" that happens before "fidgeting around in my seat to finish this thing before running to the bathroom"
I read this and was like, "this can't be real" and then I looked for sources and like--
Adapting Intuitive Eating for Neurodivergent People
"This can be very harmful for neurodivergent people, as many neurodivergent people struggle to feel internal cues and bodily sensations, including hunger and fullness. An emphasis on âonly eating when hungryâ can result in neurodivergent people delaying eating until they are so hungry that they are shaky, highly irritable, or even on the verge of passing out. A focus on âstopping when fullâ may cause neurodivergent people to overthink every bite they take and scrutinize whether they are truly hungry or truly full. To modify Intuitive Eating for neurodivergent people, it may be important to focus on eating enough and eating consistently throughout the day, rather than eating according to oneâs hunger and fullness cues. Neurodivergent people may need more of a structured meal and snack schedule than neurotypical folks in recovery, as well as some guidelines around a minimum amount of food. This does not make their eating less intuitive or their recovery less real - it is an important way of honouring their bodyâs needs and unique ways of functioning."
WHAT??????
what the fuck
... The things I learn.
Hunger is a gradient and not an organ response? I sit here in amazement.
The thing is, I do eat snacks and such -- not out of a sensation on a hunger spectrum (a thing which exists, apparently), but out of a long-learned estimation of âtime until organ response,â so as to reduce or forestall that organ response.
