i think born to run and darkness on the edge of town go together in that you can't really understand one album without understanding the other. born to run is about achieving the dream of running away and escaping your past, and darkness on the edge of town is about the realization that your past has been following you the whole time.

there's this chain that ties you to your hometown, to your childhood home, and you've run til the end of its length but you'll have to go back to the beginning to break it. you want to go further than it allows you, but is it worth unpacking your trauma? trauma that goes back generations, trauma that you were born to run from, that you don't fully understand and you aren't sure you want to, but your desire for freedom will haunt you until you do. there's a whole world out there, but before that, there's a darkness on the edge of town.

the human brain is so cool, if you're tired and stressed enough, your brain will go, "don't worry, I got you" and shadows will start moving

As a principled feminist I'm often tempted to say shit like "are men capable of higher thought" but then I have to remember not to perpetuate gender essentialism and change it to "why do men choose not to think about anything"

and not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but another reason I hate the return of 2000’s th*nspo shit is bc starving does make women frail and has longer term consequences like early osteoporosis, brittle bones/teeth, insomnia, ect. Your muscles will start eating themselves. It also makes you extremely emotional and severely lowers your capacity for critical thinking not bc you’re a girl but because your brain isn’t getting any fucking nutrients so idk I just feel like its very convenient that every time there’s an uptick in fascist rhetoric and women’s rights are being stripped suddenly it’s peak fashion for women to be starving, weak, and exhausted
