i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
May I also suggest, for another variant which revokes the privileges but keeps the "stealing your trademark" aspect (because it is legally possible, though extremely difficult, to actually remove a company's ownership of a trademark if it gets fully genericized enough, and I feel it could be worth at least trying), that we might try something of this format:
"I googled it on DuckDuckGo/Bing/etc"
That is, make *explicit* how you have already implicitly been using "googled", in the sense of "looked up on any internet search engine".
(It is verbally clunkier than just "I googled" -- I do think "look it up" has a better potential for widespread use because it's the same number of syllables -- but this being Tumblr, the home of commitment to the bit, there's also potential for some major hilarity if it spreads further beyond the strict usage of search engines and becomes a synonym for "look it up" in general. I googled it on Wikipedia. I googled it in the dictionary. I googled it in the ancient tomes that lie below R'lyeh. Et cetera.)
