She is the only person he ever hired. Past Sydney, hiring got farmed out to Nat (and later Richie). To the point he and Sydney don’t even know who the three randos are that quit on opening night.

And then in fucking vow renewal/marriage style he goes, “here is a contract tying you to my hopes and dreams as the (partial) owner of them, and because you are a part of that dream I do need you to sign the papers, also here is my family name.”

I was thinking about the s4 trailer and went back and watched it. Because of Ayo’s interview with Michelle Obama, some of the brief tidbits she dropped about the quick turnaround and scheduling decisions from the bear s5 filming to rehearsing for Proof sounded like s5 was not an original intention. As well as, if I recall correctly, an interview Jeremy did last year where he said he found out about s5 at Christmas 2024.

Ok so that leads me back to the s4 trailer. Many many scenes in that trailer ended up being unused. And also once that trailer was released, the teasers/short tv spots became more Sydcarmy oriented. “I like this.” is the major one that pops in my head. Also going back to look at the trailer, we know that the beginning scene of Sydney and Carmy in 401 was reshot, to be something seemingly more romantic.

My theory is that originally goodbye was the ending but once Chris realized he wanted to do a s5 he started tweaking things to make Sydcarmy even more romance coded. It’s clear that his original intent was to make it all ambiguous given how things ended in goodbye. With Carmy seemingly open to rekindling things with Claire but Carmy and Sydney leaving a lot of things unsaid and hidden within the context of their conversation in goodbye. Worms was an episode that was added post majority of the original s4 production. The dialogue where Sydney is called out by her cousin for probably having a crush on Carmy, which makes it hard for her to leave what is essentially a bad situation. Even though she says doesn’t, Lionel mentioned in a follow up interview that children always reveal the truth (paraphrasing).

I also feel like the addition of RomCom King Rob Reiner to the show, happened in 2025 as well.

I wonder what other romantically overt dialogue or even subtext was added to s4 once there was a decision to make more of the show. Perhaps and hopefully leaving things less ambiguous for the real conclusion. I wonder if Chris felt just as unsatisfied leaving things up to the audience to decide as we felt after watching goodbye.

For me if you had somewhat of a decent ending already executed, there would be no reason to add 8 more episodes unless you wanted to clear up a lot of the story that was left on the table in the previous season. Majority of that being things between Sydney and Carmy. As always my expectation for explicit romance between Sydney and Carmy in this show is rather low but I hope that it means something that he found it in his spirit to give us one last chance.

Carny hidden facial expressions in goodbye is the thing that gets me that shows something clearly isnt finished. He's hiding something and he started making that face the moment he snapped at Sydney to tell her he was her FRIEND. Not partner. Friend. This guy doesnt know what a girlfriend is and if he is making those expression right when Richie comes in...richie is in the middle of all that he was trying to say ...part 3 here we come..

Sheridan Road in season added more sydcarmy. Worms was probably written before the announcement of season 5, but the extended metaphor about kitchens as homes and how one had a cute brother was saying something. And possibly resulted in the rewrite/shoot of the s4 opening.

Basically, people are using their key fobs to set off their car alarms when they see ICE.

This is effective for several reasons:

Obviously, it alerts everyone that something is wrong. Given ICE has been terrorizing Minnesota, people are likely to immediately know it is ICE. This gives people time to flee or barricade themselves in their homes.

ICE loses the element of surprise.
