THE BEAR 5.05 "Raspberries"
I'm struggling. Thank you for asking. Sorry to hear that. It's all good. I'll prevail. THE BEAR, 5.04 "Ribs"
bear hugs: a compilation
Non shippers are stupid when they all love Pete so dearly and how he is good for sugar is grounding for her and brings her happiness but literally cannot see the same thing happening in front of their eyes for sydcarmy because the canon doesn’t explicitly tell them!??

The Bear - 5.01 | Soda
THE BEAR 5.06
carmy flashing back to their very first meeting numerous times over the course of the series is enough to solidify their canon status.
carmy has visually etched so many things about sydney into his subconscious.
last season i wrote this post about how carmy's dream is sydney.
last week i wrote this one about how he's actively imprinting memories of her.
the "you look like syd" scene + the "you look nice" scene... are not random. it's an extension of that first meeting + the other dozen times she's walked into a frame he's already wordlessly existing in.
the camera always lingers on his reaction, his expression.
the audience is always a witness to him openly marveling at her.
this is a directorial choice + it's made throughout the bulk of the series so much it becomes a motif.
there is a real narrative + thematic gravitas to the dialogue detail of carmy saying the exact words "it started when you walked in..." the import of which has been seamlessly illustrated by how often he's recalled that very moment within the bones of the story itself.
they weren't just love at first sight. they were incomprehensible at first sight. they were salvation at first sight.
so much of the final season exemplified how sydney is the embodiment of the thing he couldn't see or connect with beneath his trauma, grief + haphazard sense of self.
she was the anchor, she was the connective tissue.
she was the water, to his fire. she was the cool breeze, the calm, the peace. these things were expressly explored via visual symbolism in the narrative.
"i like this..."
he likes being alongside her, he likes assisting her on her mission + dream, which is evident as he speaks in the internship interview.
he likes the moments where he's so outside of himself + his body + all the machinations of existing as this deeply skilled yet complicated chef (person).
when it clicks what her best bite was, we watch his microexpression almost flood with rapturous awe.
immediately the dimensions of this wordless connection is both validated + compounded.
sydney knows about her connection to carmy throughout the length of the series, even if she doesn't verbalize or give credence to it.
she is always very aware of her why, even when it doesn't make sense or falters.
she knows why she's there, why she keeps coming back.
even amongst the pitfalls + agitation.
which is also why there's more emotional distance on her end until the last season + a half.
"you write in the margins." "i appreciate you." "you're supposed to be here!"
but all carmy knows before that revelation is the moment she walked into his life + everything shifted.
he's the legacy, the access, the vehicle. she's the heart, the humanity, the cohesion.
throughout the length of the series they experience the inverse in the other.
in actuality, they found the thing they most hungered for, the thing that was always missing in the lap of the other.
that's a canon love story.
guys it’s the same light…
I'm watching it from the standpoint of what @fairestbeard pointed out in the episode Sophie.
Natalie, Carmy, and Richie each brought an additional girl into the Berzatto family, a 'baby'. That's why we hear she mentioned, as Eva wore a different color from the rest; she wore red. Sydney wore red in the Sundae episode as she was Carmy’s new addition to the family tree.
Joanne Calo, when asked about the Fishes episodes and carmy getting into a relationship, would have to fix his parents' shit first. Our caregivers teach us how to care for people and vice versa. Carmy is going through obstacles for Sydney because he's never had a baby before; he's always been the baby. This new thing, this 'caregiving' can be full of miscommunication, martyrdom, anger, and all that he was taught to do.
Natalie is pregnant in season 2, and she has to get ready for her new addition to the family just like carmy and he has to break cycles, but instead he goes back to safe zones.
So now he's ready to fully care for her, and when I watch the embrace, I think of the song Baby I Love You and how he holds and rocks Sydney.
Also, Emmanuel called Sydney Baby.
Yeah...and how baby, a term of endearment for romance and nurturing.. simply subconsciously just shows our love for the person; our 'baby' means we want to care for said person, cherish and keep them safe.
Sydney is Carmy's baby. That's it.

If we're gonna invite people in our home, we are gonna look like a fucking family.
you're the bear btw
Anyone else feel an interesting vibe in this scene? with Carmy and Sydney getting down and dirty in the prawns.
Why is the speed bothering you so much Syd? And Mr. Speedy Berzatto over here just had to reach over to demonstrate his technique on Sydney’s prawn.
Even funnier that Fak describes this dish later as “Fuck Town 3000”
Hm. So The Bear IS a p*orno.
Last time we saw prawns - the episode children while Marcus sits in the office looking through carmys drawings with suggestive food like eggplants and a bound chicken, and Sydney telling Carmy the taste of the sauce is meh.
SYD AND carmy flirt through competition and Sydney was impressed by Carmy's finesse and what his hands can do that she didnt mind when he entered her space. She was turned on by how focused he was in that moment. Also something about her pointing out it wasn't a race and he replying instantly with totally. Tension!
So much tension that in the episode later she DOES mind when he's in her space with the twine and tape. Why was she so aware of it then while he'smoving his hands and tying things up?
And it's even hotter that it's second nature for Carmy to be so in her space that it's inevitable that sydney is going to full of 'banana fucking town' she can try to stay focused and on top of work. But she is not.
Season 5 syd : Tells us she is allergic to apples.
Season 4 carm: why would we have apples? We don’t use apples?
WE ARE ALWAYS ONE STEP BEHIND THEM UGH. I hate that i feel like I’m checking into their story instead of following it all the time.
From the first meeting when he asks her what’s up as he is reading all the questions in her brain!??
These annoying lovers
The way i have actually completely turned around on the sydcarmy hamachi reveal - her saying she went to empire and mentioning grapefruit scallop?? Like how the hamachi inspired the Michelin dish that won them the stars. He knows that’s just not true , he knows there wasn’t a grapefruit scallop dish he knows what went beyond the pass - it seems they both know what happened right there and it’s too precarious to bring up . Too precious to talk about in front of everyone. THEY FINALLY SEE THROUGH THE INVISIBLE STRING BRINGING THEM TOGETHER -TETHERING THEM FOR LIFE and they win because syd creates a dish inspired by that hamachi.
This is not a continuity error it’s a deliberate choice to keep the moment between them. just them.
It’s the parallels for me - syd lying to him on the first day about why she wants to work there him clocking it . In THE REVEAL also He sees through her lie and she knows he will.
THE REVEAL IS ALSO INVISIBLE, UNSAID, but So layered - A SHARED invisible MOMENT AMONGST THE CHAOS.
I JUST READ THAT JEREMY INTERVIEW WHERE HE CALLS IT THE SCALLOP HE SERVED HER IN SEASON 3 - WE KNOW IT WAS THE HAMACHI THEY KNOW IT WAS THE HAMACHI WHY DOES JEREMY IN THE INTERVIEW AND SYD IN THE SHOW KEEP CALLING IT THE SCALLOP BECAUSE THE SCALLOP THAT WON THE STAR IS INSPIRED BY THE HAMACHI. THE HAMACHI REVEAL WAS INFRONT OF US ALL ALONG. THEY ARE LYING TO US SO BAD.
That’s SYDCARMY’s moment . Jeremy knows his lines this is just dumb meta stuff that they do.

The Bear - in its entirety - should be required viewing for white folks.
White folks who drag seasons 3-4 continue to shock me with their inability to see how their own (often times, unconscious) racism is being reflected back at them via Carmy, Richie, Mikey, Natalie, Donna, Cicero, Claire, the Faks, Stevie, Michelle and Tiff (+ the fine dining industry).
This show is literally out here giving white folks a demonstration of how to stop, reflect, fuck up and fail but get back up and do better in your relationships with BIPOC communities. Take notes!
The embrace and whatever happens after leads Carmy into his interview with heavy thoughts and with a long monolgue where he absolutely loves food for the color and how vibrant it is how the days aren't so bad with his family..and even admits that at work he used people as instruments but now he's starting to care for others..or someone.
You can't tell me he wanted to leave after whatever they did when he can experience that everyday.
