“you’re being way too chill about the whole letting myself in and bleeding on your floor thing.” she chuckles dryly, back sliding halfway down the door before she gathers her strength to stand and make it over to the kitchen table.

“i heard you get home and thought you might need some help, so i left the door unlocked. oh! also! saw you on the news today! should i be worried? are you gonna rob me like you did that bank?” there’s a smile on your lips that lets her know you weren’t worried in the slightest.

“all the banks i hit are hydra sanctioned, or just shady as hell, and no one got hurt. didn’t even-” she grunts as she tries to unzip her suit, “-take much.”

“i know. i’m fucking with you.” you set a mug of coffee on the table in front of her.

“there’s this little girl, her name’s robin. her dad was an inhuman. when you would touch him, you would see someone’s death.” she drags a finger around rim of her mug.

“i touched his hand and saw his death. i tried to stop it. i thought i could, but i failed.” she swallows hard and you find yourself reaching across the table to brush your fingertips against her wrist.

she figured mentioning the lincoln of it all would be too much, too soon.

“i promised him i’d look out for his daughter, so the money is for her and her mom.” her mouth twitches to the faintest smile.

you were reminded as to why you never hesitated to trust her.

she’s a good person.

you open your first aid kit, dragging your chair around the table to start bandaging her up.

she had tried to pull her arms from the suit but gave up after only freeing one, so you help her with the other.

“do you even try to not get hurt?” you mutter under your breath, dabbing away the drying blood from her skin.

she doesn’t answer and it causes a heavy feeling to settle in your chest.

“clearly you haven’t heard this in a while, but i care about you. i care whether or not you make it back home every night.” your throat tightens.

she looks at you, eyes softening.

“i won’t be gone long this time. i’ll text on my way back.” she opens and closes her fist, wincing as she slides her suit back on.

“you’ll text?” you raise a brow, cleaning up your mess.

she she chugs the rest of her coffee, pulling out her burner. she hands it to you, and you type your number in.

“i’ll text.” she confirms, “thanks for the coffee, and for the assist.” she motions to to her arms.

“be careful.” you give her a tight lipped smile as she heads for the door, glancing over her shoulder at you.

she gives you one last look over before exiting your apartment, taking a steadying breath and hoping to go unnoticed while she makes her way through los angeles.
