Like, no this character isn't using a pacifier or gripping onto a plushie or padded or wearing childing clothing, but they are hiding behind their most trusted person in the friend group, either a parental figure or close friend, when things feel too big and new.

They aren't crying out for mommy or daddy, or throwing a tantrum, but they're sobbing to themselves in the middle of the night, clutching their pillow like a person, because everything feels too big and too much

They aren't burying themselves in pacifiers, teethers, or plushies, but they're chewing on their shirt or hand when they get anxious and hugging their pillow to their chest like a lifeline

we're hitting the milestone of like "you can make your own decisions now" and ive literally never felt smaller, and it doesn't help that our support needs (and ability to literally speak for ourselves) are actively evaporating in front of me with nonstop recovery days

it's just like. i have no idea what we're doing. and we're not meant to be doing any of this. and i really really don't want to tell people that i physically can't do everything and apparently disabilities are really disabling if you keep pretending they're "optional limitations" or something

we're just tired ;-;-; and im aging in puppy years ;-;-;-; and treatment's expensive.....

Oh no :((( so stressfull! I struggled with the exact same thing when I turned 18 and I’m still struggling with it. Suddenly having a bunch of my supports dropped stressed me out so much and I felt so lost, which quickly led to some scary regression.

I’d say that doing something for the first time is usually when it’s scariest! It’s new, unfamiliar, and you feel really lost and scared. Burnout and disabilites definitely make this like 10x harder too! Because your brain and body can’t handle all that stress, so it goes straight into worsening the symptoms(flare up), making it even harder to cope with even more stress added in!

It’s hard as hell. I’m sorry you have to go through that, lil pup :( That is really really tough and scary and it makes sense why you’re regressing and flaring up! I wish I could hold your paw and guide you through all this because it is really scary to do this alone :(

Change is hard. New things are scary. It takes time to adjust, and you may still struggle even after months. Try your best to cope and find comfort where you can, you’ll get through this!

After your interview, if you have the free time, maybe take a good nap with many plushies and some nice white noise. Or do something else you really like, like playing a video game or playing base or something. Just a little reward and break for all your bravery! You are so strong and brave and it’s scary so give yourself all the comfort you can get!

You are not alone. You will get through this just like I did. Treat yourself with kindness and indulge in comfort whenever you can!
