hmmmmm i'm debating whether michael would let star into his room during a depressive episode or not. it reminds me of the scene from the movie where michael is vamped out, and has star hide him from sam because he doesn’t want his brother to see him like that. but he only lets her see him because she’s going through the exact same horrors he is, she knows how it feels, she understands.

they both get a little vampy during the fight with max, so i think it’s safe to assume that the same line of logic follows into musical canon. BUT. how much is star willing to expose herself to michael when it comes to her own depression? would he know by this point that she struggles with it herself, does he know that she has also struggled/is struggling with suicidal ideation?

and then another thing—if i change these lines so that star does stay in michael’s room for a bit, with lucy left on the outskirts hoping for the best, would she be willing to leave him in such a state?

michael and sam are able to go out and find their people, make friends their age and bond with them, but those friends don’t even have parents for lucy to form connections with.

in the scene where lucy has sam pick out her shoes before the “walk” with max, she says to him and michael:

which i always found very telling. it also reminds me of the common abuse tactic where abusive spouses will isolate their victim by having them cut off friends, family, etc, so that they don’t have anybody else in their life that they could go to.
