for all of you:
"Sewing is a gateway drug to thinking through complex problems. It seems really simple; culturally, we make it women's work. Let me tell you: real sewing at any kind of level of proficiency is a bloody magic trick. Sewing, like mold making, involves mental frames that require one to think inside out and backwards. It requires one to work on an order of operations that is often taking into account the reverse. It's a really, really important skill, and if you learn how to sew, you're mostly on your way to carpentry and welding and sheet metal work. I'm not kidding: these are planar forms meeting under rules and conditions. And if you can make a sleeve work, I swear to God, you could build a house."
--Adam Savage
"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.
"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"
"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."
"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."
"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.
"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."
"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."
"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.
"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.
"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."
"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."
"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."
Last year I finally had an excuse to illustrate this simple little Tumblr story I've had bookmarked forever for class.
I hope you like it :]
in conversation about white people who go to Japan and expect their knowledge of anime to culturally carry them, I was once posed with “it’s like if there was a Japanese guy who was obsessed with spongebob and came over here and thought he could get by just communicating in spongebob quotes.” This is a false equivalence because if such a man existed we would crown him king. We’d love him. Americans would fucking love that. sometimes I get sad that this isn’t a real guy I can invite to a party.
Ok the last one got me laughing actually

white Heathcliff casting is of course unconscionable but I do think someone should have let a young Nic Cage take a crack at it. performance would have been crazy. imagine the accent work.
he could have been the best white Heathcliff to ever do it.
everyone making direct reference to Cage's performance in Moonstruck understands the vision perfectly
George Hamilton in his dual role as Don Diego de la Vega (aka: Zorro) and his gay twin brother Ramón de la Vega (aka: Bunny Wigglesworth, aka: also Zorro) in the 20th Century Fox/Peter Medak swashbuckling comedy Zorro, The Gay Blade, 1981. A high camp but ultimately very positive portrayal of an lgbtq+ character and the unconditional bonds of family and brotherly love, George's fabulously flamboyant "Bunny" swoops in and saves the day when Zorro suffers an injury, stealing from the rich to give to the poor and saving his brother Zorro's life before helping overthrow the evil dictator ruling over "old-timey" Southern California. It's very much worth noting that Hamilton's older half-brother Bill was gay and George adored him, often stating that Bill was smarter, better looking and more sophisticated than he was. When George moved to Hollywood with his mother and Bill in the late-1950s and started to find success as an actor, he financially supported them both and set them up in a mansion so they could live out their dreams in the high style they aspired to. Bill later worked as an interior decorator working for Eva Gabor Interiors in both Palm Springs and Los Angeles before he became ill and passed away at the age of 51 in 1982 (George took care of Bill and paid for his medical care at the end). Decades later, George starred in a touring stage version of the musical La Cage aux Folles which he performed in both the U.S. and Canada in 2012. Discussing his role as a gay man in the play with the Tampa Bay Times, Hamilton stated: "My brother Bill never felt accepted. Even though my mother loved him, he never felt like she accepted him. I accepted him because I grew up with him. I think about him a lot when I'm playing Georges." Before Bill died, George asked him if there was anything he'd do differently if he could live his life over again. "And Bill said, 'I would love more.' And that's what La Cage is all about. It's not about gay or straight. It's about family, about living your life and finding love, and about standing up for yourself for who you are." In an interview with The Toronto Star about the play, George said: "When this show first came out in 1983, it was a kind of anthem for the gay movement. I didn’t want to do anything that would be disrespectful or a travesty of that. My half- brother was gay and at a period in time when it was very difficult for him. It was all closeted in America back then and it was a great dark secret. I'm doing this show for him." George was also close friends (and romantic partners for a time) with lgbtq+ ally, gay icon and AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor, often accompanying her to fundraising events for HIV/AIDS in the 1980s.
who gives a shit if the heated rivalry actors are queer or not. if they're queer then good for them for getting to play queer roles and if they're straight but this cheerfully willing to have hot sweaty gay sex with other men on television for our entertainment then more power to them too. other straight men should take notes. whats the issue here again
Thinking about it, I’m pretty sure my ancestors would be horrified with me.
Not because I’m lazy or unworthy or anything like that…
…but because one of my distant uncles was among the eight survivors of the Essex, the ship that inspired the ending of Moby Dick and sank after being rammed by a whale, and what do I fuckin do after my bloodline has this Ordeal at Sea?
I get a fuckin degree in Marine Science and go back the fuck out there.
#op its your job to kill that whale

Younger people, one thing I want you to understand about Millenials is that, overall, our parents taught their daughters to aim for careers and employment, but they didn't teach their sons to keep house. This causes a whole lot of Situations.
