I just saw a tiktok of a girl who was recounting a theory she'd heard that in Rise of Skywalker, when Ben put his hand on Rey's stomach and gave his life force to her that he also maybe inadvertently impregnated her with force babies.

Historically, this is possible. Anakin was also a force baby. Born purely from the force. So when Rey goes to Tatooine to bury Leia and Luke's lightsabers, she's symbolically putting the old twins to rest as she's now carrying what will be the next gen of Skywalker.

Forget the discussion of the likelihood of this theory being plausible or not...because instead a numerous amount of the comments on the video revolve around consent. Like, "it's gross because she didn't give consent" and I'm just...

IT'S A FICTIONAL SPACE OPERA FANTASY MOVIE! WHY can't it just be a damn story without trying to make a dude, who oh by the way murdered his father and also committed genocide, politically correct?!

If you cannot separate fiction from reality, if you cannot hold yourself and those at large in the real world to the very real standards that we need in order to live in a safe and functional society without becoming upset over stories that are just that, fake, then you shouldn't be consuming media.

I just don't understand how you can't just go on this journey, whether it be all good or all bad or maybe a mix of both, and not just let if fucking be.

And again, if your argument is that it can negatively influence people who are exposed to it, then it is that person's responsibility to avoid it.

If the person is underage, it is the parent's responsibility to help that child navigate what the difference is between fact and fiction.

I'm sorry if this has been uncharacteristically aggressive of me, but I am SO tired of that string of criticism. Because it's not criticism. It's policing and it's annoying and exhausting and I've had people say that about MY work and fuck that.
