" you think you're so much better than me, don't you? "
" okay, that's it. what the hell's your problem? "
" you wanna know what your problem is? "
" i'm not talking to you when you're like this. "

" this is the part where you apologize. "
" this is the part where you leave. "
" you must think you're god's gift to the world. "
" oh, spare me your holier-than-thou bullshit! "
singersonlydaughterâ:
But she didnât. She was firmly rooted in reality, which made her curse under her breath.
The moment they were secluded, away from prying public eyes, or gossips, she ripped into him. It was clear she was angry from her stance, her tone, and the way her fists were balled up, arms firmly folded over her chest.
âFirst of all, donât call me West, okay? Itâs notâ I donât go by that anymore.â Her eyes avoided his, unsure how to even feel using such an old, foreign name on her tongue. It didnât even feel like Griffonâs anymore. It felt like it belonged to a whole different person.Â
âSecondly, what the hell do you mean âI know youâre Griffonâ? Did hell scramble your brain and make you forget who I am?â She half laughed at the statement, unable to contain her own amusement at the ridiculousness of it all. Lord knows how much this girl was bitter. Bitter about how things ended, bitter about how he was the beginning of a serious of let downs and left behind that never seemed to stop throwing punches. She wanted to move on from things, stop dwelling so much on the past and the anger that had seeped so deeply into her bones, she didnât know how to get rid of it other than carving it out of herself.
âOr were you just surprised to see Iâm not that cute little girl anymore and youâre surprised Iâm the same person?â
Wow, she sure has a lot to say. He silently noted to himself just as she went into a small rant with what he felt was hostility dripping off of each word. âYou donât know?â Nick questioned just before his hands dropped into his pockets, shoes shifting over the pebbles on the ground which caused scratch-like noises until he stopped moving. âHead issues seem to be a thing considering when I took a bullet and hit my head the first time, but the second time around wasnât so great. Luck doesnât seem to be a thing right now.â The hunter pulled out his vape, taking a long drag of good âole THC and exhaled a cloud of relief. This is going to be a little harder than I thought, but as noted, this wasnât expected to be easy. âA few things, my parents are gone.. as in non-existent. My sisters are gone, they were both killed, and Chris- I donât even want to get into that. I donât remember a lot but I know that thereâs a lot of unresolved shit here.â Nick paused for a moment, quickly disassociating and went somewhere else for a moment. In what felt like a blink of an eye there was a memory, meeting her when she was much younger and giving her a ride, and suddenly it was like someone stopped the movie which put him back in the present. âIf it means anything, Tyler had strict instructions to get it all back, she said I owed you. I donât know if youâre willing to help but if not, I canât say that I didnât try with a fried memory, right?â

So either he was real, or he was some demon posing as him, or a mix of both. Still, this was public, out in the open. A place where the world of paranormals was a secret, and even if South Dakota was bit heavy with their allowing of brandishing a weapon, a display like that would have the cops busting down the door, or at least another bar patron pulling their own six shooter to match.Â
The huntress was quick to move, to shield what he had laid out for her on the tabletop, feigning a smile at her coworkers, waving them off. They already had some weird suspicions about what exactly she got up to, she didnât need to add anymore to their elaborate conspiracies.Â
âWould you fucking put that away, Christ,â She swore. âI donât do business in public, especially not the kind that involves the amount ofââ The brunette leaned in, dropping her voice to a whisper. âIllegal shit I do on a daily basis.â
If she wasnât so furious, so desperately trying to cover up the leak from one of her two lives into the other, she wouldâve been awestruck. Perhaps even happy to see him. But instead a scowl on her face remained, a tightness in her jaw appearing. The days of Griffon Singer being the sweet little girl he once knew were long since over.
âIf you wanna talk, then letâs talk. But we are not doing it here, do you understand me?â
There was a small snicker he couldnât contain, it was out of his control and almost like an instinct to her reaction. After waiting a moment a small nod was tossed her way before a grin appeared while he spoke. âAye, aye captain West.â Retrieving his gun right after he spoke it was then he turned around to head out the door. Nick walked towards the back where crickets could now be heard along with muffled bar music and distant drunk conversations. Not what I was expecting but a promise is a promise. His eyes momentarily shifted towards the sky, as though he were silent letting Tyler know he was doing it for her. When approaching footsteps could be heard the blonde male watched her carefully. âLook, I donât know a whole âlot but I do know youâre Griffon,â he started as he spaced distance between the two in case of unexpected combat. âI get that I need to explain some things but if you have other plans...then I guess it saves me a hotel night, yet I kinda wasted gas getting here already.â Nickâs blue orbs were strikingly alert, a piercing icy stare in place due to how unsure he was of this woman. To her it was her past coming back to bother her, to Nick it was about figuring out why learning everything about her was so important. âYou know this conversation doesnât exactly have to happen if you donât want it to.â God, right now I could really use a goddamn blunt.

a graceless puppet on unmeaning strings;  i that looked out, and saw, and was at rest;  stars, and faint wings , rose-etched along the west.   [  independent original character. written by chrissie. ]
singersonlydaughterâ:
Twenty four goddamn years old, and that little spitfire of a teenager she had once been had been snuffed out like a candle before bed. Well, not entirely. That fire, that rebellious, loud mouthed girl was still underneath. Simmering. Seething. Just more contained, controlled, in a militant style that wouldâve put her brotherâs soldier-esque attitude to shame. After all, she was Queen of the Hunters now, and she better act like it.
Yet on occasion, she lived a little. More so in the most recent years. Time between Bobbyâs death and now had made her appreciate what the world had to offer, to not shy away from people. Which is why she was playing a pool, running fucking circles around one of the waitresses she worked with. She always won, no matter how good her competitor was.Â
As a celebration, she went to get another beer. Knocking on the bar top, the bartender rolled his eyes, asking if this one was also on her coworkerâs tab. She just smiled, and said, âAbsolutely.âÂ
Drink in hand, she found a nice little table, a perching point to people watch. Always scanning, always on high alert. Blame her anxiety, blame her job, it didnât matter anyway.Â
Long dark hair that used to be worn freely down was now always pulled back into a messy ponytail. New scars littered her skin, one through her eyebrow, a couple new ones on her chest. Where once wild, untamed trouble graced her features and burned in her eyes had been replaced with cold calculation. Stone. A pretty marble statue who still had her knife on her at all times.Â
Old habits tended to die hard.Â
Her head snapped to the call of a name so foreign, so old, it almost could be considered a corpse. She hadnât heard the moniker sheâd taken up as a teen in years. The voice didnât sound familiar, but the face did.Â
She couldnât help but laugh, taking a long swig from her drink, setting it down carefully on the tabletop, shaking her head the whole time.
âAnd here I thought I was done with having these fucking hallucinations,â The huntress muttered under her breath, trying to ignore what she assumed to be only a figment of her imagination.
Now if he had been anyone else it would have probably offended him to hear her attempt to ride him off as a hallucination but given their hunter lives it wasnât uncommon to brush things off with certain peopleâs appearances on just that. Many things had changed, they both had changed, and it was far more than just their looks. His hair had grown long, facial hair masking his once boyish bare grin, and his body was much more scarred than the last time they had seen each other. âMight want to ease the drinking,â he advised lightly but not in a commanding manner. "I mean I guess things really have changed considering you once told me alcohol wasnât your thing.â Nick chuckled. âThen again, you did say youâd probably become one of those people who rewarded yourself with a beer after a hard day on the road following leads.â People started staring, the mood had completely changed as they seemed to become protective of Griffon and suddenly he felt like he walked into a lionâs den. As an outsider it was instinct for the hunter to take a good look at everyone who was currently present, watching his back as certain others inched closer. Great, so things are off to an amazing start. Tyler was the reason Nick wanted to return, she had tried so hard to push him to reach the point he was at currently and he would spend the rest of his life honoring her every act of kindness she ever showed him. Especially in his vulnerable state, and Griffon needed to know that. She needed to know everything, all he wanted was a chance and he would move on because at the end of the day their lives were different. âLet me start over,â Nickâs jaw tightened up for just a moment before he placed his colt on the counter, which he removed from his waist holster, and revealed the tattoos on his chest. âIâm Nick and Iâm here to talk about a series of unfortunate fucking events.â Â
Years, years had gone by since he could fully remember everything after his first trip to hell. Something happened, a deal had been interfered with that only caused more harm than saving. Whatever the result it did not stop Nick from trying to remember everything that he needed to. Tyler had done her best, she spent every day until the end reminding him that he needed to remember her in order to reunite with her. Griffon. Throughout the missing gap much had happened, many had lost their lives which brought Nick to a choice of working alone to prevent attachment that only seemed to end in loss. He did owe it to her, an explanation of some sort for everything that had happened and if it wasnât for Tyler he would have never reached as far as he was currently with his memory. It was a cloudy evening in Sioux Falls, a city in South Dakota he never thought he would be returning to but sometimes memory served a person well. Nick pulled up to a bar he heard she frequented at, it was a new talent of his that had become quite strong: tracking. Once parked he had opened the door and shut it behind him, immediately walking inside where his eyes had slowly scanned over the crowd. The bartender stared him down until Nick approached the counter. âOne bourbon on the rocks.â His voice low but enough to be heard, a deep rasp slightly noticeable. When one passerby moved out of his view, they revealed a very familiar face. The bartender didnât even serve him yet and Nick was on his way over, taking cautious steps towards his once wife and parted his lips to speak. âHey West,â his voice was much more different, a bit softer. âI guess we have some catching up to do.â
Curious, what version of Nick did yâall know?
