Astarion x trans masc reader | short and fluffy | !!mentions of periods!! | reader has low blood sugar, but no specified condition.
It was a bit embarassing, being found out thanks to that damn vampires blood-detection-nose picking up the smell of blood on you during shark week. Luckily, despite Astarions... ambiguous morals, he was no transphobe, and promised he'd not out you. But now you had to deal with his subtle jabs about 'smelling good enough to eat' and 'looking so cute when you're grumpy'. So when he started lingering around you the way he usually did when you were on your period, despite not being on it yet, you were a little confused and suspicious. What was this cheeky bastard of a man doing? He'd already had his fill of blood recently, surely he doesn't want even more of the stuff. Whatever it was, it had bothered him enough that he'd yanked you away from the group and began to interrogate you.
"You're not hiding a wound, you're not cursed by the week of the blood moon, you haven't got someone else's blood on you..." he muttered, circling you like a stalking animal.
"I don't know what you're smelling man... are you sure it's blood related and not just the fact we haven't had the chance for a proper bath in days?" you replied.
"Darling, I know blood when I smell it. This is blood... just... less rich. Bitter, almost"
Even if you could also smell every detail in blood, you'd have no idea what it could be either. You handn't gotten hurt or sick, no period, no getting drenched in enemies guts...
"Wait..." Astarion muttered, a thought firing off in his brain.
Completley uncaring of how odd it may seem, he leaned into the crook of your neck, smelling right from the vein under your skin he usually bit from.
"Your blood sugar is low" he simply stated.
You blinked, what did that even smell like?
"You can smell that?" You asked.
"Yes, obviously. Although you're not dangerously low, no wonder I couldn't place it at first... do make sure you eat something sweet darling, you sad blood smell is annoying me" he replied, like the lack of sugar in YOUR blood was highly offensive to HIM.
But you couldn't really be mad at him, he had just alerted you to a potential risk. Low blood sugar was bad, very bad. You'd better ask Halsin to hunt down some honey or fruits for you, the bear would definatley be able to find some in a timley manner.
When you asked later that day, and explained Astarion had managed to pick up on your low blood sugar, you were met with an smused chuckle and an "ah, so that's why he lingers around you every so often. You've got yourself an alert vampire".
An alert vampire... clued into periods, wounds and blood sugar. Kind enough to not out you too. What an odd dynamic you and Astarion had developed...
