I think Muu and Rei are two sides of the same coin, both the victim and unintentional instigator of bullying. As we all know, their story starts with Muu being pampered all her life and being treated as above all the others, which is where her mindset of being superior and craving control over others comes from, however as her status would imply, she was severely neglected in terms of emotional and social needs, leading to her becoming subject to being used by others for her wealth, causing people pleasing tendencies. Rei on the other hand was just a regular girl, infact she saw everyone as regular people and wouldn't bend to Muu's status, that had made Muu uncomfortable as Rei was someone she had absolutely no control over, so Muu's friends had picked up on it and without Muu asking them to, they severely bullied Rei. Eventually however, Rei fights back, knowing that it was because she refused to bend to the popular girl's will, after being physically assaulted herself, she grabs a chair and rams it into Muu's face. This causes Muu to vomit out of pure shock and pain, and her 'friends' seeing the girl they used for status and money display weakness and be assaulted without consequences, they too followed in Rei's footsteps and took it a step further. Now we see Muu become a victim of the abuses Rei had suffered, she was ostracized, had sharp and large objects constantly thrown at her, and often left helpless and alone. This causes Muu to become suicidal, Muu faced constant pain and destruction of her image every day all day, so Muu began cutting herself as implied with her usage of her box cutter and other suicide imagery, she is also implied to have a suicide plan as seen in the lyrics of her songs. Muu, much like Rei didn't know what to do, and out of embarrassment, she didn't ask for help, so she tried the one thing that she knew, and that was confronting the source. After school, Muu reaches out to Rei, she tries apologizing for everything and pleading with her, but Rei in her right ignores Muu, after all she has no reason to listen to the one responsible for her own trauma. This causes Muu to snap, out of impulse, Muu grabs her box cutter she used on herself and stabs Rei multiple times, which kills her.
We can clearly see how Muu and Rei shared a unique and normalized form of abuse, which traumatized them both deeply. They both serve to represent the extremes of bullying and how they shape behavior. At the end of the day even if they never got to acknowledge it, in a way they reached the same status and share a unique experience in which they could've bonded over.
