Loving the willful misunderstanding of my post about willful misunderstanding.
The WHOLE POINT is that ‘misogyny’ no longer means ‘applies only to people with vaginas’ despite the etymological relationship between those words, just as ‘transandrophobia’ can mean an intersectional relationship between transness and having been AFAB, without needing to mean a declaration that androphoba is an independent axis of oppression exactly because we are not beholden to the most willfully hateful etymological interpretations possible.
Good lord it’s just incredible, the mental gymnastics transsexists will do to miss a point. But i guess they just really need to feel like they’re ‘winning’ against people AFAB. Yknow, for no reason.
Like, this whole "transandrophobia doesn't exist because androphobia doesn't exist" just sounds like "I'm not transphobic because phobia means fear and I'm not scared"
It's stupid and helps nobody. Instead of dissecting words and judging each part on its own etc, can we maybe focus on what they're used to talk about????
It's just willful obfuscation at this point. Refusing to acknowledge lived realities and instead arguing semantics. It does nothing.
Did you know that many terms in science were coined before we knew much about the things they describe, and now they are complete misnomers, but the terms are still being used because the names are less important than what they describe? Take "atom" for example, the name is based on the Greek word "atomos", meaning "uncuttable", because the Greeks believed they were the smallest, indivisible units. We now know that's not the case. And instead of endlessly arguing over the word and its origin, scientists just kept it. Because the science to be done was more important than semantics. Same goes for "nova", meaning new, which in astrophysics describes the death of a star, so pretty much the opposite. But when it was coined, we didn't know what caused these flares in the sky, and so we thought it must be newly born stars, or rather, the observations were called "new stars" in the sky. Again, the name just stuck. Because the name is the least important part.
Point is, again: can we stop arguing over the terms and focus on the issues?
(and if I have to read one more post that goes "I'm not transmasc but I feel the word transandrophobia is bad", I might start shooting)
