Celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Traveling Wilburys, ongoing series — the Wilbury names for Volume 1:
Nelson Wilbury (aka George Harrison): “I chose my Wilbury name. My dad had Nelson Wilbury, after Nelson Piquet, the Brazilian Formula One champion. And I chose Ayrton Wilbury, after Ayrton Senna, [another] Brazilian Formula One champion, so we could keep it in the family, you know?” - Dhani Harrison, Hi Res Audio Central, 16 October 2017
Charlie T. Wilbury Jnr. (aka Tom Petty): “George had Derek Taylor write an entire history of the Wilbury family. And the father was named Charles Truscott Wilbury. And I took his name as Charles Truscott Wilbury Jnr.” - Breakfast With The Beatles, 1 July 2007
Lefty Wilbury (aka Roy Orbison): “Roy took the name ‘Lefty Wilbury’ in homage of the country singer Lefty Frizzell.” - “Roy Orbison: In Dreams,” PRX
Lucky Wilbury (aka Bob Dylan): Presumably, this is derived from the Dylan song “Idiot Wind,” and the lyric, “I can’t help it if I’m lucky.”
Otis Wilbury (aka Jeff Lynne): Since I have yet to come across a definite mention, it can only be guessed that this one might be a nod to Otis Redding?

Bob Dylan steps in with The Byrds, 1965.
Happy day three of pride month!
Today I will spotlight perhaps one of the most iconic bisexual women from history. Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a Mexican artist and bisexual woman who utilized the naive folk art style. Her art was primarily surrealist and magical realist in nature, and focused on the self, disability, Mexican identity and heritage, her tempestuous relationship with her husband, Diego Rivera, women and gender, race and nation, and class.
As evidenced by the second painting in this set, “Marxism Will Give Health to the Sick”, Frida was also a communist. An avid admirer of Marx, Lenin, Engels, and other communist revolutionaries, she was fully committed to leftist values and thus hated the United States for being a representation of the apex of empire and capital.
Frida is an example of the revolutionary fire intrinsic to bi women’s historical legacy. That fire has not flamed out - it has been stoked, cared for, and grown over the past one hundred years since Frida’s birth. Bi women are not and never have been passive or meek like men and straight people want us to be. We are and always have been determined, courageous, in-your-face, and unapologetic, and Frida was among the first to encapsulate that.
Let us follow in Frida’s unabashed, creative, spirited footsteps. Frida knew that the liberation of the masses could only come with communism. On this day of pride month, let Frida’s legacy serve as a reminder that bi women’s liberation - and LGBT liberation overall - cannot be achieved in a capitalist framework. It is only with revolution that we can liberate our communities.
(3/30 day’s of bi women’s history).
