Being able to draw older people as attractive without reducing or erasing the visual signs of aging, and in fact showing that they're attractive because of those signs, is an artistic skill that should be valued so much more. Honestly, it should earn you an immediate fortune because holy fuck is it a rare commodity. There are so many artists who seem to think attractiveness and aging exist in opposition to each other, so they smooth every wrinkle, erase every crease, and de-age the character until they're basically thirty with silver hair. But when an artist can look at crow's feet, smile lines, weathered skin, deep-set wrinkles, and all the little traces of a life well lived and say, "No, that's what makes them beautiful," that's a level of artistic observation and care I wish we celebrated more often.

Rewatching Book 3 of ATLA and cringing at how dumb the Iroh fanservice plot twists are:
"Iroh lied about killing the last dragon before Zuko was born because he wanted to protect them! They actually deemed him pure of heart and worthy to learn the truest form of firebending🥰" .......... even though he continued to be a violent general in an evil genocidal empire long after that...? I'm questioning the dragons' wisdom now.
"Actually Iroh and all the other old guys in the show are senior members of a super secret society working for the good of the world!!" ..... even though one of them flat out refused to teach the Avatar waterbending for misogynistic reasons, another refused to teach the Avatar firebending for personal reasons, and Iroh was an evil war general barely 6 years ago so I suppose he's only a recent member?
I love AtLA as much as anyone, but yeah it is, uh. Pretty abundantly clear that the White Lotus didn't exist in the writers' room until at least season two, and they didn't have a full idea of its role in the narrative probably until season three. The timeline on Iroh "Did A War Against All The Rest Of You" Azulonson joining and being trusted so high in the membership is also. Very questionable.
Which is all to say I think it would be perfect if we got to the season three end game and realized Iroh was actually still an errand boy initiate in the White Lotus. And Piandao pulls aside the main tent flap to reveal our Supreme Grand Lotus:
Gran-Gran
Canonically traveled the world without Committing A War, thus reasonably having met and networked with most of these other people in a positive way? Check
Saw the Avatar and told her only grandkids to go help that kid ASAP, don't worry Gran-Gran's just going to stay riiiiiight here while you're gone and definitely not relive the excitements of her youth? Check
Would recontextualize Pakku's constant sour grapes face (and his reaction to seeing Katara's necklace) to "my ex left me and now she's my superior, if I don't train her grandkid she will mobilize a global movement to Kick My Ass"? CHECK
Gran-Gran for White Lotus Grandmaster 2026
i'm holidng a "GRAN GRAN FOR GRAND LOTUS" banner because I was FULLY expecting to see her make a comeback in the the final few eps but... apparently not, I guess.
*slams table yet again* WHERE'S THE GRAN GRAN SPIN-OFF
This actually makes SO MUCH SENSE FOR GRAN GRAN TO BE AN IMPORTANT WHITE LOTUS MEMBER

you know what i actually hope korra blew up the world on purpose not because i think she is a bad avatar (FAR from it) or because i actually believe the obvious propaganda fed opinion in the trailer for 7 havens but if there was an avatar that deserved to be able to blow up the world for how they were treated???
isolated from her culture and parents and the WORLD by the white lotus from age 5. born as the avatar in a world that was modernizing and outgrowing the NEED for an avatar. so excited to experience the real world only to realize her sheltered upbringing has left her exceedingly blind and vulnerable to political vultures and public opinion. experiencing her FIRST EVER crush in the middle of having to deal with a revolution and corrupt politicians. betrayed by her UNCLE who she trusted who tried to KILL her when she was 5 and who plotted to DESTROY her and the world. manipulated and treated like garbage and blamed when she saved the world the best way she could. ZAHEER
is she perfect? no. but neither was AANG! Aang could be impulsive! Aang could be hotheaded! Aang could be SELFISH! Aang could make mistakes! Aang was an amazing avatar but he wasn't perfect and neither was Korra and the enemies they faced were poles apart and yes, I think each one of them would have dealt with each others enemies/battles differently but not because I think Korra would be better at defeating Ozai or because I think Aang would be better at dealing with the spirit world stuff it's because Korra and Aang are two very different people who grew up in two very different worlds with their own unique challenges
on the .01% chance Korra actually did turn evil and blow up the world then I'm on the sidelines cheering her on. honestly go girl you had the odds stacked against you as a brown female bisexual character and you tried your best and these motherfuckers were still ungrateful so show them what 10,000 years of darkness and chaos really looks like
Let's be real, it was a matter of time before an Avatar lost it and finally decided enough was ENOUGH. If she looked at the world and decided fuck it, lets go back to the beginning, and nuked the face of the Earth, I'm in with it. Go off girl.
