The sky is pink and orange when Caspian kneels before the four of them and Aslan, an array of Narnians and Telmarines watching on.
Lucy steps forward first on light feet to present Caspian with a staff of apple wood. "Do you swear to love all the creatures of Narnia equally, to treat their hearts and their health as if they were your own?"
Caspian bows his head to Lucy. "I do swear it," he says, takes the staff in his left hand. Lucy steps back.
Edmund is next with measured steps holding a silver set of scales. "Do you swear to rule all the creatures of Narnia justly and fairly, to uphold the laws that have come before you and set down new ones in accordance with what is best for this country and her people?"
"I do swear it," Caspian says again with a nod, takes the scales in his right hand. Edmund steps back.
Susan is third, glides forward with a cape of rich purple. "Do you swear to protect those under your charge to the best of your ability, to shelter those in need and be a shield to the Narnian people?"
"I do swear it," Caspian says, inclines his head, and Susan ties the cape around his shoulders, walks back to her place.
Peter is the last, moves forward to stand before Caspian with the crown. "Do you swear to be the first in the charge and the last in the retreat if enemies should come against this land, to be the sword of the Narnian people?"
"I do swear it," Caspian says, bowing his head before lifting his chin back up, holding steady as Peter places the crown atop his hair. His face remains solemn but a fierce joy shines in his eyes.
"Then rise, Caspian, tenth of that name, King of Narnia, Lord of Cair Paravel and Emperor of the Lone Islands," Aslan rumbles.
