This chapter has written parts in it.
Movie night?
You paused, your thumb hovering over the screen as you reread Kirishima's message.
Wait... they were having a movie night without you?
A small knot formed in your stomach before you quickly brushed it aside. They were allowed to hang out without inviting you. It wasn't a big deal. Besides, Mina had said she already had plans, and you hadn't mentioned wanting to do anything tonight.
You let out a quiet breath, shaking your head.
Ah, what the heck. It shouldn't bother you this much... right?
The drive to the agency took less than fifteen minutes. You'd made the trip often enough that your GPS no longer bothered suggesting directions, and by the time you pulled into the nearly empty parking lot, the familiar black SUV parked near the entrance told you everything you needed to know.
They really had spent their Saturday here.
The lobby lights had been dimmed for the evening, casting the building in a warm amber glow that felt strangely comforting after the cool night outside. Your keycard beeped softly against the scanner, and the door unlocked with a quiet click. The agency was almost silent. Not the unsettling kind of silence that came with an empty building, but the peaceful sort that settled in once everyone else had gone home. Somewhere deeper inside, a television played softly enough that you could only make out the muffled dialogue.
"Kirishima?" you called as you shrugged your bag higher onto your shoulder.
No answer.
You followed the sound toward the lounge, already rehearsing a joke about how pathetic it was that you'd driven all the way back for a phone charger. The words died before they ever had the chance to leave your mouth.
The movie was still playing, forgotten in the background. An open bowl of popcorn rested on the coffee table beside a couple of empty soda cans, the evidence of a night that had clearly been going on for hours. Curled into one end of the couch sat Kirishima, one earbud tucked into his left ear as he lazily scrolled through something on his phone.
Bakugou was asleep.
Not the kind of light sleep where he'd wake the second someone entered the room, either. He was completely out, his boots kicked carelessly onto the floor, one arm folded across his stomach while the other rested at his side. His head had fallen naturally against Kirishima's shoulder, as though it had simply found the nearest comfortable place to land.
Kirishima looked up almost immediately, the corners of his mouth lifting into an easy smile when he spotted you.
"Oh, hey," he greeted quietly, instinctively lowering his voice. "Didn't think you'd get here that fast."
You blinked once before remembering why you'd come in the first place.
"Sorry," you whispered back, your eyes flickering toward Bakugou before returning to him. "Did I... interrupt something?"
"Hm?" Kirishima tilted his head, following your gaze until he looked down at the blond currently using him as a pillow. It took him a second to realize what you meant before he let out a small, amused laugh. "Oh. No, not at all."
He said it so casually that it almost threw you off.
There wasn't even a hint of embarrassment in his voice. No awkward attempt to move Bakugou away or explain the situation. If anything, he seemed genuinely confused that you'd even apologized.
"I just came to grab my charger," you murmured.
"It's still on your desk. I saw it this morning."
"Oh... right."
For a moment, neither of you said anything. The television continued playing quietly behind him while Bakugou remained completely oblivious to your arrival, not even shifting at the sound of your voice.
You'd seen him asleep before. After long patrols, during painfully boring meetings, even once in the backseat after an especially exhausting mission.
But never like this.
There was something strangely intimate about the scene in front of you—not romantic, exactly. Just... lived in. Comfortable. Familiar in a way that only came from doing the same thing over and over again until it became second nature. The realization settled somewhere in the back of your mind before you could stop it.
This wasn't unusual for them.
This was routine.
You suddenly felt like you'd walked into someone's living room without knocking.
"I'll, uh..." You pointed awkwardly toward the hallway. "I'll just go grab it."
Kirishima smiled. "Go for it."
You nodded quickly before slipping back into the hallway, mentally scolding yourself for making something so normal feel awkward. It wasn't like they were doing anything wrong.
Still...
As you glanced back one last time, you caught Bakugou beginning to shift in his sleep. Without even looking away from his phone, Kirishima subtly leaned his shoulder toward him, just enough to keep him from slipping sideways.
The movement was so absentminded, so practiced, that it barely seemed worth thinking about.
For some reason, it was the only thing you could think about.
The next morning came quickly after you tossing and turning all night. Morning sunlight filtered through the blinds, spilling across your bedroom floor in uneven stripes. You groaned quietly, turning over just long enough to silence your alarm before forcing yourself out of bed.
The events of last night lingered in the back of your mind longer than you cared to admit.
Every now and then, your thoughts drifted back to the image of Bakugou asleep on Kirishima's shoulder, only for you to immediately shake it away.
They're partners.
Of course they're close.
You'd probably done the exact same thing with friends before...
...Right?
You weren't sure anymore.
By the time you reached the agency, the familiar rhythm of work quickly pushed the thought aside. Reports had piled up while you'd been away on your mission, and before you knew it, your desk had disappeared beneath stacks of paperwork that demanded your attention.
Hours slipped by.
Someone walked past your desk.
Someone else asked you to sign off on a mission report.
A printer jammed.
You fixed it.
Another report landed in your inbox.
Without realizing it, lunchtime came...
...and went.
Then your phone buzzed.
You paused, waiting for a reply that came all too quickly.
You laughed quietly to yourself as you stood from your desk, earning a curious glance from one of the support staff.
Maybe it wasn't a setup.Maybe Bakugou had just happened to notice.
Still...He'd noticed, your mind hopefully thought.
You grabbed your lunch from the fridge exactly where he'd said it'd be.
The note you'd stuck to the lid that morning—"Don't forget this again."—felt almost ironic now.
By the time you made it back to your desk, another notification lit up your screen.
Not the group chat.
A private message.
Your eyes lingered on the message longer than they probably should have.
Without thinking, you glanced across the office.
Bakugou was on the other side of the room, arguing with someone from the support department over paperwork as if he'd never texted you at all.
You looked back at your phone.
A strange warmth settled in your chest.
Not because he'd reminded you to eat. But because...Somehow, somewhere between this morning and now, the two of them had noticed.
And apparently...They'd talked about it. Talked about you. That somehow calmed the storm in your mind for a while.
That was, until beach day arrived.
HIII!!!
I hope you like the new format I'm trying out! See me with dividers and everything huh? 😜
Someone suggested in my taglist that I should add dialogue to my stories, hope you liked it!!!
