Worlds Within Pages
I have memories of things that never happened.
I knew people that never existed.
I’ve been to places that exist nowhere in this world.
I’ve felt pain and anguish and despair and joy and love and hope–all from events that never were.
Each page, full of life, of death, of worlds beyond my imaginings.
Each word–a different color, a different feeling.
Each sentence forming, forging, giving life to a new world.
A world of fiction unfurling, shaping, structuring itself to a place beyond my grasp.
A place I’ve entered.
A place I’ve never been.
A place I’ll never be.
A place that I will forever mourn for having experienced but never to be within my reach.
Will never be touched by my hands.
Will never be seen with my own eyes.
Will never be heard with my own ears.
But a place that I have felt in my heart.
Another world that I keep within me.
Another story that lives within me.
And though my heart mourns for things that have never been and will never be,
I rejoice in the worlds that live in my soul.
My soul, intangible, like the worlds within
but real enough to feel, real enough for me.
I just remembered I wrote this right after finishing A Court of Mist and Fury. I just felt too much that I couldn’t keep it in.
