I think Cassie meant it in the way that just because Magnus changed his name, it doesn't mean it isn't his "real name" (iirc, the asker in that post asked if we'd ever find out Magnus's real name and this was Cassie's response)
But yeah, I'd love to know his birth name!
So I misunderstood? 😭 But it would make sense, I thought that Magnus is a Dutch name and from that part it seemed warlocks chose mostly only last name. Aaahh... I am spreading nonsense then. 😅😭
I took it as that is his name as well, but I think this was pre TFTSA so maybe shes changed it? I think it was just the surname changed though—sort of a “choose your own family” type of name. TBC also make this slightly ambiguous. I could see never wanting to “dead name” him too and we never find out
I think I need to read TFTSA again then. I remember the scene, but I thought that Magnus could still choose the name he already had and find more symbolism benind it. But since I don't remember it exactly, it's possible that this is not the case. :)
And yeah, even though I'm curious about the name, I don't exactly need it. Magnus Bane is simply Magnus Bane and that's it. (Well, Magnus Lightwood Bane. :D)
Yes!! I think out of the names he chose, Lightwood is his new favourite ;) (since it came with a pretty husband)
@randomkatefangirl Magnus is Latin, it means “great”. That’s why in TRSoM he calls himself the Great Poison (as poison could be seen as a synonym for Bane)
