i think the thing with scifi and fantasy is that they are both very trope-y but i do feel like in scifi there is at least an expectation to make you stuff look at least a little different but in fantasy you can get away with just doing the exact same shit everyone else is down to like the individual fantasy species and everything and nobody like questions it at all. it's not out of the ordinary at all for a fantasy setting to have elves and dwarves but if you made a scifi story with volcanoans, a humanoid alien species with pointy ears that represees their emotions, you would get in trouble
